I sense too they are still in rebuild mode whether fans like it or not. Reckon Rosa doesn’t overly rate our list and its balance and made calls accordingly. 20 players out in 2 years and 7 x 18 year olds this year come in.
I think it was the right call but i think club were 12 -24 months too slow on these actions.
Appreciated Rosa’s balanced draft approach and its not his fault on past list management. I don’t think we make finals next year but i prefer Rosa’s view and think its heading in better direction
That is everything wrong with the EFC is we have no patience, we expect everything to click and miraculously we are going to win a flag without doing any of the hard work required.
You only have to look at any successful club over the last 20 years to see it takes a slow measured build up with good recruitment good development and a good coach.
I heavily dispute this. The club still hasn’t made it clear over the past 2 years what they are trying to achieve. Look at North. Look at Hawthorn. There is a clear plan of what they are doing. I simply don’t see that with us.
President (replaced Brasher with himself)
Coach (replaced Rutten with Scott)
Clarkson fiasco (or at least the optics of it)
CEO (replaced Campbell with Vosso)
Thorburn fiasco
Football Manager (replaced Mahoney with McPherson)
List Manager (replaced Dodoro with Rosa)
Dodoro FWC fiasco
Board Renewal (Madden, Wellman, Allen, Sheedy, etc. moved on)
Boosted football department resources (additional development coaches, Rath, Robbins, beefed up the recruiting team, etc.)
Club culture… not yet reflected in on-field results, but promising. Jury still out.
I’d say overall he’s achieved the objective of shaking things up and being an agent of change. The execution has not been seamless and this has left him open to criticism and eroded the goodwill / trust he otherwise would have garnered.
My 28 years of membership ceased last year (I rang up to cancel my reserved seat but they cancelled the entire membership, I didn’t bother correcting them) so I don’t have a vote. I’d be inclined to let old mate continue, but I can see why there’s scepticism.
Haven’t they said they will rely heavily on the draft and free agency period in coming years(noted that 18 months ago). Obviously FA this year didn’t suit us with the lack of players available. But for me i knew what the club was thinking prior to Tassie compromised drafts as a strategy. The type of players i sense we draft has changed since Rosa noting he wants a better balance view and increase ball use and pace. Rosa also said they need to develop high end talent. Kako maybe one. Draft hand next year could possibly get access to a few more. If we draft or trade well
We weren’t fielding a “rebuild” team this year or last. We usually had 12-15 players over the age of 25 each week. I seriously don’t understand what we are trying to achieve. The club can say “development”, but how long does that last??
There was also the short term Rioli drafting to the Board in implementation of the external review recommendations on Indigenous, then his disappearance. Did he make way for Welsh?
