EFC Board

They should also be able to link social network accounts and/or a webpage in the EFC twitter and website, and the summary. So, if they want to post more information, do a Q&A, they could do so.

But others could do what Luke has done and come here and answer questions.

I actually reckon Candidates should get email, phone and postal addresses, so they can do their own campaigning.

If you run for Government at any level you get the electoral roll, which only gives name and address.

It is argued that privacy is an issue, but I would argue if you get to Vote you should find out about Candidates and that is tough if they cannot contact you.

realistically, have they got any levers they can pull other than increasing membership fees?

Maybe he has.

Once I’m ready to nominate for the board, someone link to my posts, especially match day threads. Not sure how you couldn’t vote for me noting my contributions to that and other threads.

Give me advance warning so that I can get a membership and vote for you

Do you think the board overstepped in their role to decide not to trade Merrett rather than allow the list management team to make that decision? And what are your thoughts on having a board member in Solomon join the coaching staff? Do you think the board currently allows others to do their job without interference or is it too early to say under Welsh’s tenure?

What about the radical plan of trying to stop the club being a basket case?

“Do you think the board overstepped in their role to decide not to trade Merrett rather than allow the list management team to make that decision?”

In general, I take the view the board should stay waaay clear of things like this. We should hire an executive and coaching staff that are the experts on this stuff and the board (including the director of football governance) shouldn’t jump into it too directly outside of providing counsel and feedback where that expertise is helpful. And while this might sound like a bit of a cop out, I don’t want to speak on the board’s specific position here given I don’t know what deliberations lead to that level of involvement.

If they had let the football department make this call and the board was just the public face of it then im a real fan of the decision because it trusts the experts and backs them in by putting skin in the game. Alternatively, if there were significant failures on the part of the executive (and I have no idea if there was or not) during that saga that involved key club players escalating the conflict rather than de-escalate it – then the board will sometimes need to (very very rarely though) intervene to stop bad decisions that impact strategic goals and reputational outcomes.

So given those possibilities im not gonna give a clear assessment of their decisions here – but just say the board should focus on governance and strategic direction and avoid intervention in something like list management – unless a very very high bar has been met and these day-to-day operational decisions demonstrate governance or organisational failures.

“And what are your thoughts on having a board member in Solomon join the coaching staff?”

This doesn’t bother me too much assuming the board was really diligent at managing probity concerns through this one. On its face it presents risks – but through open disclosure, strong governance and a bit of common sense this can be pulled off. That said if something like this became the norm or things weren’t done at arms length from the board – then we’d need to ask more questions.

“Do you think the board currently allows others to do their job without interference or is it too early to say under Welsh’s tenure?”

No clue on this one im afraid. But as you’ve indicated, we’re all keen to see success and the least we can do for Welsh is give him the opportunity to prove himself. Im not going to say hes our saviour but we’ve got a baseline of governance that I would say needs to be exceeded – so lets give him a chance to do just that.

Quick plug for myself here:
Hard agree on the lack of info. If you wanted to know a bit more about me ive put together a few answers throughout this topic - otherwise you can read my last few posts about my priorities on my (1) Facebook page

I don’t think they should, but there should be a mechanism by which they can distribute information directly, at arms length of the data. If we’re using a third party for the election process then surely that’s a facility that could be offered.

I wouldn’t want RAPTOR having my digits.

Or Welshy, for that matter.

There should also be an advertising ban on the club to prevent using their leverage to promote preferred candidates. This includes puff pieces.

Technically candidates can get access to the membership roll but it would probably ■■■■ off more members than it would win them votes.

Dees had a case about it go to court a couple of years back.

Of which we may well have seen in The Age.

In 2023, during the election period, the club clearly fed the media the story they wanted to get across. Sadly the media just ran with them. No doubt the club looked after them another time.

Bacchus, will you drop the “rigged” stuff? Please. The elections are not rigged. Everything is done in accordance with the constitution. You know that. A person who knows that would say that the election is rigged only if he is either stupid or dishonest. Which are you? Please stop trying to impress the least intelligent on this forum.

OK, I will stop impressing you or trying to impress you.

However I have a broader view on rigging

  • interference in the voting process to favour one candidate or suppress another.

  • or more generally to describe a situation that has been manipulated or unfair.

And the constitution is rigged, so as to promote the interests of the conservative majority on the board.
