Elections in Europe

"Emmanuel Macron has defeated his far-right challenger Marine Le Pen in the second round of France’s presidential elections, projections show.

According to usually accurate estimates, the current president scored 58.2% of the vote, against 41.8% for the Rassemblement National (National Rally) leader."

France thankfully stepped back from the brink.

Preferential voting in a field of more than two candidates has some merit.

Some estimates that 42% of first round Melenchon voters voted for Macron, 45% of them did not bother to vote in second round.

The fact that a far right pro-Russian supporter got this far, is scary.

When Trump actually gets elected, then after his ■■■■ show, there are still people who think ‘he did some good’, it’s not a surprise.
He has single handedly farked up people’s state of mind and given every other nut job a pathway to leadership.

As a society, we’re totally farked.

I once drew the short straw and was made to attend a function hosted by Le Pen’s father, who was chair of the Australia -EU Committee of the EU Parliament. Most walked out, I was not allowed to.
Food was good and in plentiful supply.

Europe has always had a more diverse range of parties that cover the spectrum from left to right which attract voters, whereas, in Australia the political parties tend to have less diversity, especially when it comes to attracting votes - For example, Socialist parties can attract up to 30% of votes in some European countries.

The Swedes are in for a world of hurt if Jimmies mob take the wheel.
Could have huge ramifications throughout Scandinavia and indeed Europe

Any connection to Sweden, historically politically neutral ( if not economic) making compromises to join NATO?

Seems to be riding on the back of a Anti immigration policy and the media reports on gang violence (dirty foreigners)
