Electric Motor Vehicles

Toyota presser on the matter of alternative fuels for new ice vehicles:

Fuels with net zero CO2 emissions into the atmosphere across their lifecycle, from manufacture to use. These include e-fuel, made from hydrogen and carbon dioxide, and biofuels derived from biomass (plants, etc.).

Sounds like blends of things to make it all work

Off the showroom floor, they have to meet the ADR’s for noise and emissions. Just like cars. But motorcyclists are far far more likely to modify their vehicles than car drivers. And it’s an inherently more tactile pursuit than your average car driver wants. In fact, most (not all) drivers seem to want quieter and quieter , more and more insulated from the surroundings with symphonic stereo quality cars. Which means I have to make my motorcycles louder and louder to let you know I’m about and to (hopefully) stop you running me over  .

There is, though, a big difference between sheer volume, and sounding good. Too many bikes are too loud and sound ■■■■ just for the sake of loudness.

Edit - slightly more on topic, this sudden emergence of genuine electric motorcycles - as opposed to step through scooters etc - is an alien concept to me. Sewing machine smooth motors and no gearbox - with attendant controls and riding manners -seems the antithesis of motorcycling to me. It has to be visceral , tactile, fun , that’s the whole point. I saw one styled like a Ducati , with a $45k price tag and my only reaction was “what a farking wank” . I wonder if we’ll reach absurdities like electric motor driven counter counter-balance shafts to pretend it feels like a v - twin? Or cut current flow to the motor every 270 degrees…

Right, okay, I understand. You make more noise so that you’ll be noticed for collision purposes. So next time one of those super loud bikes is close to me, I’ll make sure I collide with it. That should have the dual effect of letting the rider know that yes, he’s been noticed, and stopping the noise. Win-win, really.

That’s not very nice.

Do EMV drivers listen to AC/DC or something more current?

I think Ac/Dc are more affiliated with EMI ?

Just back again and green are also hybrids over a certain efficiency.

The Li I went in was a hybrid that practically ran solely on electricity. $1.25 worth of electricity for 100k

There are Tesla beaters in pace for 20k AUD

And fully autonomous

Inside of the Li fully voice activated

Maybe not EV perse(but they all will be EV)

Robo taxis after a lot of failures are finally getting there.

Can see a massive use case for them as suburban end of trip vehicles to get people to the nearest mass transit station .

Amazon have funded Zoox which has been green lighted in California.

Waymo which has had a few problems is still going in some US cities too I think

I love that he bought at 8 per share and sold at 230!

I discovered a major drawback for EVs. My CGU comprehensive premium has gone from about $900 to $2,000.

Swapping to QBE at $1,775 with a $1,200 deductible.

All related to the difficulty in getting spare parts.

Check out Rimac version:

When I got my Tesla, asked our Insurance to get cover and through Allianz it was nearly $2000. I called Allianz direct and is was $1400. It came down about $50 this year. Still more expensive than my Lexus was though.

Probably easier to get Tesla parts.
.

I ran into the back of a Porsche SUV and had a small dent on the front of my Tesla 3. Was not allowed to fill it even though it was just a small 10 cm long crease. Had to wait 8 months for new front panel.

Repair bill was $7000. Could not see any damage to Porsche, but its repair bill was over $10,000. Panel beaters and car companies just rip us off.

I am in SF now and had a Waymo ride for the first time. They are great.
