Electric Motor Vehicles

I asked my Sparkie and he said at the time, two years ago, that the kit needed was expensive but it would come down in price. I think it has but as the article says your car needs to be compatible as well. Tesla tell me it is a software fix on their side , if we also have a Tesla Powerwall !!!

There are a couple of options. There is a “hack” where all cars with V2L can be used to power up to around 3KW worth of draw. Think lights and fridges, essentials, etc. HOEM device.

Then there is bi-directional chargers (expensive, but new affordable models will land in the near future) but a car with V2G is required. This will power the whole house.

This is the beginning. Car manufacturers will get on board and V2G will become standard.

I’m way behind in this thread, but this suggests you’re only willing to take a 5 minute break in 1000km trip. Perhaps you’re not the only driver, but otherwise that’s not enough

Sometimes my wife is with me when I go over to visit family but several times per year I drive over on my own. They are just shy of 1000km’s and I usually get up early and leave and drive straight through with a fuel stop at Buronga for about 5 minutes and then a toilet break somewhere else along the way.
If we drive over to Melbourne for the footy I usually drive the whole way with just 1 quick stop

I saw a recent Media Watch about EV’s.

The boss of the NRMA was talking about how battery fires are less common than ICE cars firing up, and saying ev fires were far less common.

So what do Sky News do? Claim that the NRMA boss said they were much more likely. All the jackbooted thugs from Sky News lining up to say they’d never ever buy an EV because they’re sure to blow up.

My new Tesla gadget

IMG_0470

This ring is my new access to car.

I’m curious about this. Can you elaborate?

why would your work let you charge there?

When you get a Tesla ( no idea about other EVs), you get two access cards instead of keys. They are the same size as a credit card.

This ring must have a similar chip in it and you pair it with a Tesla card and it then does the same functions. Most have the Tesla app on their phone and you can control almost everything with it, but if I lost most phone and wallet, nd when you get to my age it is more of a possibility, the ring is the safeguard.

Cost about $170, and it is nearly red and black, lot of other colours and fancier ones for those who like jewellery.

Needing to remember things is good for cognitive function :skull:

Workplaces install chargers for show and not use?

Will they always be free, it might be ok while 1 or 2 people use them, but if everyone at work had EV’s and were charging at work and powering their house then maybe they might change it to have to pay something for it.

Its not exactly a fair benefit for those without EV’s as well.

Did you also get one of these?

We have 4 chargers at my work and only for company vehicle use as people sooked up over wait times and being told they had to pay

You know the best place for EV chargers.

All paid carparks.

Free to use.

But in those parking lots you pay for parking after the first 2 hours. (Or straight away if its a Wilson)

So well if you hog em any longer than that your paying for their use regardless.

Simple. Local or State Government could pass a law today thats its a condition of being able to build/run a private carpark for public use.

And just mandate the number of EV chargers that need to be available for the number of car spaces. Tie it to the number of EVs on the road.

The carparks in Sydney CBD are monopolies by a singaporean billionaire.

Hes making a fortune out of our use of cars in Sydney. The least the government could ask for in response is X number of electric chargers in all his carparks.

Why not?

A lot of companies are desperate to get people back to the office, toilets, AC, tea/coffee and any number of perks, why not use of a charger?

The company I used to work for was building a new office from the ground up. They were putting in car chargers for employees

As long as they can increase the hourly rate to customers. People with EV’s should not get free charging

Do you know if this will work for Plug in Hybrids?
