England: Return of the sausages

Yes - they should have learned from the Australian Democrats’ fatal error in betraying their policies and sucking up to the Tories.
edit: as already commented on.

I’m not sure if you’re aware, but AKSHHHHUALLLY, privatisation creates competition and is therefore better for the consumer.

Plus government doesn’t have to mess around administering all of the revenue from essential services that facilitate basic human rights.

Whigs no less elite than the Tories, looking after their own class.

And when Tony Blair won on the New Labour platform, some didn’t understand that it was actually Neo Liberal Labour.
Promoting himself as a Scot when he sent his kids to the Fettes school so they wouldn’t acquire a Scottish accent. My Glasgow friend was on to him.

He’s an Adelaide boy from my old man’s part of town :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Edinburgh SA doesn’t have the class of Edinburgh Scotland.

No one resides in our Edinburgh except for ADF.
Tony was a good Burnside lad

With a posh English accent.
On the other hand, there was Gordon Brown, maintained his accent.
Beware the pollies from Edinburgh.

Blair spent way more time in Adelaide as a kid then he did in Scotland so perhaps he never picked up the accent and by time he went to college for a couple of years it was too late. Brown lived in Scotland most of his life didn’t he?
Accents are a weird thing, my Aunt was born in Scotland and lived there until she was 7 but she didn’t have a hint of an accent yet her sister was born in England and came here as a 2yo speaks with a massive pommie accent

That’d be because she lives in Adelaide.

I think the general rule is if you arrive before the age of 8, you lose your original accent.

I suspect your aunt is just bunging it on with the plum in her gob.

Intonations , inherited, some identifiable by ethnic origins

When I lived in Melbourne I was often asked which country I was from.

At least, I think that’s what they were asking. Hard to tell with that ridiculous accent.

She doesn’t live in Adelaide.
My mother is the only one on her side that lived in Adelaide. She moved him when she met my father.
Mum is from a family of 8 kids, the older two who were 15 and 17 stayed in the UK when my Grandparents emigrated to Australia whilst the 4 others at the time including my mother came here and then they had 2 more after arriving in Sydney. Two of the younger ones moved back to the UK when they were teens

Go for it. The State of free settlers, with accents corrupted by the Ten Pound Poms

That’s a paddlin’.

Sure, the Tories are doomed, but I dont think their vote will ultimately be hit that hard in percentage terms. But with first past the post, they don’t even need to be and they will certainly be reduced to a handful and will be out of Government for a decade at least. Hopefully the new Government keeps a majority of the people happy.

You don’t have to do that in first-past-the-post (and non-compulsory) elections…

At the last Federal elections, only 7 Lib seats and 8 ALP seats were decided on primary votes
