Mr Sunak’s father was a GP, while his mother ran her own pharmacy.
Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer said he did not want to comment on Mr Sunak’s remarks but when pushed said he had previously spoken about his family having to cut off their phone when they could not pay the bills.
But he said he was not “pleading poverty” and that these were just normal things growing up in a working-class household.

Well … he shouldn’t plead too much poverty, nor lacking in chances in life. He went to a rather nice Grammar school in deepest east Surrey … which went private whilst he was there. The ones he’s about to slap the 20% VAT surcharge on once he gets in. Mind you I suspect any fees his parents had to pay were borne from honest graft given their seemingly modest incomes.
Anyway, he’s a decent enough candidate for the top job. Its his ability to keep his fellow MPs onside once he takes over on July 4th in the HoC which will be the challenge.
Snap "exit"poll post yesterday’s leaders debate on Sky had 64% Starmer - 36% Rishi. Broader polls hae moved barely a jot. He’d have to perform here on end like the late Queen’s Devon Loch in the Grand National to lose this one.
Remember, Rishi is a self admitted “total coke addict”.
