EPL 2024/25

The Reds are 2-0 to the good against Sevilla at Anfield in the final friendly before the PL season commences. The finishes from Jota and Luis Diaz absolutely sublime. Good to see but save it for the season opener lads!

4-1 the Reds, Diaz added a 2nd before HT and Trey Nyoni scored a brilliant goal, another academy product who looks the goods. There was a 2nd, behind closed doors friendly at Anfield later in the day against Las Palmas which ended in a scoreless draw. Overall a good pre-season from the lads, can’t wait for the real stuff to start Saturday.

Slot already seems to have the team playing with a (different) distinctive style with a focus on passing out from the back. Remarkable given many of the players are just back from break.

Looking forward to the season now and can’t wait to get along to the Bournemouth game!

As a life long Ipswich Town fan its great to be back where we belong! 22 long years since our last taste.

A nice way to finish to preseason beating Nice 1-0 at home, few players short of a decent squad and I think survival is the first goal. Doesn’t get any tougher with Liverpool and Man City in the 1st few weeks but up for the challenge!

In McKenna we trust! COYB :tractor: :large_blue_circle:

Did Sevilla stay up? They were about 3rd from bottom when we were there, and got beaten by crosstown rivals FC Betis on a Monday night.

Yeah, they were about 3 wins clear of relegation in the end I think

My mate and I were sitting on a bench on the banks of the Guadalquivir, resting after a trip to the Plaza de Toros when a group of young blokes started quizzing us about the game that night and who we were supporting.

NO threat whatsoever, so obviously British tourist habits hadn’t got up to Seville from Malaga.

stallion gets his man, wan bissaka to hammers

Luke Shaw to miss the first month of the season with a calf injury. That’s on top of Yoro and Rasmus that will also miss the start of the season. The handover from Essendon to United has begun

Here we go another season back in the PL. I can honestly say I am only hoping for survival for the foxes, definitely not expecting them to contend as the squad is well, basically, shizen.

Cooper is on a hiding to nothing, really. Though I guess if he can settle a badly under-resourced playing list into a decent unit then there’s big brownie points there.

Not the PL but Poch appointed as coach of the US men’s national team. Interesting he’d step away from club management. Good get for the yanks!

They’ve operated this way for years. It’s quite absurd. The only good part about it is that they’re then sometimes forced to sell for peanuts. Hudson-Odoi for three million was an outright bargain.

City have loaned Kalvin Phillips to Ipswich. Full season.

Ange has suspended Bissouma for posting videos of himself using nitrous oxide.

Leicester have missed out on Hiozek.

Forest apparently close to signing Ramon Sosa as they continue to look to South America for value . He’s the right type - wing depth for potential Elanga / CHO injuries - but no idea if he’ll be any good.

Anyone playing PL Fantasy and have space in their league?

It’s all designed around making money. They are signing these talented young players to long-term contracts, some as much as 7 or 8 years. The reason why is that there is a loophole (which is due to be closed) where you can spread the transfer fee over the life of the contract. So for instance if you signed a player for a Ā£100M transfer fee but gave out an 8 year contract, you could spread that fee over the 8 years (Ā£12.5M per year) as opposed to the fee only counting towards the financial figures in the season that player was bought. So these massive spending sprees they are making are being diluted by that rule, as well as the fact that any homegrown players are counted as pure profit if they are sold, hence why they want Connor Gallagher out the door, and why they’ve sold so many academy players.

They have a stupid amount of players on their books. They have EIGHT goalkeepers! I don’t blame Poch for leaving, absolute circus. The manager would have close to no say on player transfers, so how can you judge them when it’s questionable as to whether they want any new signing that comes through the door?
