Are you able to shed light on what is allowed to hang over the fence in front of the cheer squad? I think the club(s) should ask the AFL for 5 meters of fence space to hang what we wanted there, Within guidelines of course.
Not sure it this is possible, But surely the have enough advertising space elsewhere, They would most likely say that’s prime real estate for advertising due to how often it would get on TV, But they often talk about making game day the best experience possible for the fans, Time they proved it.
In all honesty I would not know the AFL stance of banners covering advertising but knowing AFL I assume they would not like it. Would be great to have heaps of these made and help up by fans around the ground. Strong statement. Have a feeling there will be a few similar statement made that day
I think basically nothing is allowed to hang in front of advertising. If you watch cheer squads when players are lining up for goal or just kicked a goal, the giant pom poms come out but are put away behind the fence straight after.

I got told off for hanging my scarf over a sponsor sign in 1999. So you’ll probably get a lifetime ban in 2015 if you put that over a $300 million LED super sign.

You know what? We pay money to get into games, and we’ll hang wtf we like including banners, so long as they aren’t obscene. If security want to ask for them to be moved, fine. And they’ll go back farking up when they leave. farkinghell, it’s OUR FARKING GAME!

Hasn’t been ‘our’ game for a long long time.
Wow, I got fired up for a minute there - and now…back to normal
Met with Ryan McKee tonight with Rodski and a few others to discuss Round 2 v Demons game.
Really exciting things planned for the game at the G. Might be the most past players ever to attend a game at once to give you a sneak peak. Some great champions of the past will be heavily represented and the club is in full support of having a message supporting our 12 players and greater 34.
I am talking to Barry Capuano and we should be all go ahead to have past players walk with us to the G…with a few Essendon celebs kicked in. This will be from midday at Fed Square.
Activities on the day at the ground will be significant. Really want to make a statement with 70k or more fans for this game. Need a see of red and black like never before.
3 years have taught us to be a little hard, battered and cynical even…but I hope we can get back to our Essendon roots and really stand up for the players(including obviously 34) and yes even the club and it’s 140 year history. We are the ones that make it a great club and I hope we can just get as many of our friends and family to attend…will be a magical day. Please keep passing on messages to any supporters you know to attend. Need everyone to get onboard and make it a historical day
I understand the question but please allow Hird some space. Club has let him know he is welcome anytime and Tanner and Hird have spoke. Obviously and understandably he wants some space from everything for awhile. People(past players) close to Hird will be there and I am sure Hird more than anyone would be for this day in supporting the players he coached and the club he and his Grand Father played for. Hird has always been calling fans to make club strong and support 34 boys and this is what the day is about.

I agree with you.
But, there is a lot of emotion anytime Hird is involved in something and it will get more fans and supporters behind this initiative.
With him, we’d fill the G. Without him, it’ll be 70k max.
The Hird no show will be another crutch for people to continually wonder how badly our club is being run rather than focussing on the point of the cause (the 12 & 34).
I have been to two games against the Demons since the 2000 GF (the final in 2003 and the Neil Daniher last game). I’m hoping to make it to this game.
Are Dean Wallis and Paul Hamilton considered clip greats?
Think you might find Longy, Neale Daniher, Lucas, Lloyd among some doing some features. But a huge section of the crowd will just be past players…good time to get autographs:)

was a bit tongue in cheek but appreciate the sincere response haha
hope to see him back around the boys when everyones ready
To me a bigger message would be at a neutral venue, at a neutral time. No football match to go to. No event to follow.
Something simple. A vigil. No words needed. You turn up. You sit quietly and simply think about the injustice. To me that would be a real message.
If there is only the event name, the news crews have no vocal grabs, no media can point out how ‘unruly’ someone is, there is no name calling, no tribalism, no outward emotion, just silence.
We’ve used strong words in the past and these have got us no where, but our silence can be effective and it really will get through to those that matter.
In my opinion, this message is much, much stronger cause it really does take strength and perhaps a little faith.
I’m being a little cynical here but also if we have 70,000 turn up vs Melbourne then the next time at the G we turn up with 25,000 what does that say about our support for our current team?
I’m liking the idea of support but i’m not sure the execution is quite right.
