Ess v Melb Round 2 game Sat 2.10pm April 2nd - NOT TO MISS

Burgers they supplied were ■■■■■■ good.

I'm being a little cynical here but also if we have 70,000 turn up vs Melbourne then the next time at the G we turn up with 25,000 what does that say about our support for our current team?

I’m liking the idea of support but i’m not sure the execution is quite right.

You mean like…what Hawthorn supporters do?

To me a bigger message would be at a neutral venue, at a neutral time. No football match to go to. No event to follow.

Something simple. A vigil. No words needed. You turn up. You sit quietly and simply think about the injustice. To me that would be a real message.

If there is only the event name, the news crews have no vocal grabs, no media can point out how ‘unruly’ someone is, there is no name calling, no tribalism, no outward emotion, just silence.

We’ve used strong words in the past and these have got us no where, but our silence can be effective and it really will get through to those that matter.

In my opinion, this message is much, much stronger cause it really does take strength and perhaps a little faith.

See a picture is better than a thousand words!

Well next games at MCG is the Farmers game, Anzac Day, Carlton and then Dreamtime. So i hope we get 70k plus to all of them. Having though 70k turn up to a Demons game would have a big impact especially with media surrounding the march as well. To me this is the time to drop cynical side we all have and go for it

I’ll be there CJ.

We’ll be there also. Thanks for all your work on this CJ

Does anyone actually believe we will get 70,000 to a game involving Melbounre? In all honesty, if half that attend the club should view that as a win and any talk about making a statement is just laughable. We should accept our mistakes and move on. Seriously need to stop living in the past.

Think you may not understand the statement. Its about support for players and club and not about protesting anything in history. 70,000 is a goal and its goid to have them to challenge us all.

Prob get 20k essendon fans there tops unfortunately.

maybe the first time melbourne will outnumber us in forever.

I am not referring to people not turning up in protest. The practical reality is that supporters are tired of this mess and any expectation that they are going to turn up in mass to demonstrate support for the club is misguided. Like any struggling team (which we will be this year) attendances will reflect this situation.

In any case, from a sinister point of view, this is purely a commercial stunt. By ‘creating’ these events which encourage supporters to turn up and ‘support’ the players (oh the irony), the only one who benefits is the clubs coffers as they know such gimmicks are needed in the face of significant downturn in gate takings for season 2016.

I will be there. I’ll change my pregame beer venue to somewhere in Fed Square or the vicinity. Thinking transport or Y&J…

Part of the clubs job is to engage the members and get people through the gates. While our attendances may well be down this year, it doesn’t mean the club have the luxury of waving the white flag and just letting it happen.

It is not cynical to provide supporters a means of showing support for the players. I daresay the membership department have had a myriad of phone calls on just that topic.

That the two things work together isn’t evil.

If we are talking about making a statement in support of the suspended players, why not turn up at one of their training sessions?
It would require some public knowledge of when and where they will train as a group, but, personally, I would like to see 5,000 Essendon supporters in full colours turn up to their session, cheering every kick and every mark.
I tend to agree that asking crowds to turn up to support the makeshift team that is going to represent us this year is a bit hollow, and smacks of a stunt to get attendances and gate receipts up, even if it isn’t so.
I am somewhat torn between supporting the group that is left, and the club, as it struggles through, and registering some sort of protest at what has taken place to get us to this position.
The first person that says, in my presence, that we have brought this on ourselves, is going to get the biggest f#kin mouthful I can muster…and I can muster a biggish mouthful on the subject.
In the meantime, I support anything that represents a genuine demonstration of support for the 34 victims of this disgraceful saga.

I’d also agree that if the game as being marketed as being Support the 34 and there’s ■■■■ all people there (highly likely), then the media can spin it as Essendon Supporters don’t support the 34 players.

Supporting 34 is just part of the day. No doubt it is support of the club and on field players as well. should be too. If there is only 20k of us there then statement is on us and club is in trouble. Lost 800k to low attendences last year which was still 4th highest in AFL. If that though doubles our debt is a concern with likely drop off in merchandise, new sponsors etc. pretty critical time

Why are people so negative? Melbourne will be our biggest blockbuster. Our mini-final

I can’t believe some people are being so cynical about this. Turn up, support the team, it’s not complicated. There’ll be a bunch of kids playing their first ever game at the G in the red and black, kids who could be representing us for the next 10 years. How excited do you reckon they’re going to be? You reckon they want you sitting on your fat ■■■ on the couch at home “protesting”.

Yes, yes, I can see how you would have that view, if you felt that you did not want to support the club in any way.
So…which club do you support again?

Are you calling this an EIGHT POINT GAME.
