This game was vindication for coaches who talk about playing the game how we want to play it.
When St Kilda were winning, it was on their terms. We persisted and swung it our way, and once we did we ■■■■■■ it in by overcoming a 22 point deficit in a low scoring match.
St Kilda are luckier than we were that we didn’t kick as many goals when we were controlling the game.
Yes. The start of the match looked like we would get done the same way we always get done, but the second half it changed. Hopefully a glimpse that we are turning the corner.
I was more angered by the constant long kick to a contest in the last 2 minutes. Play some possession football and run the clock down. We have lost so many games with less than a minute to go and we have the ball. They should just not get the ball back.
a defining characteristic of essendon teams of the last few years is that as a collective, our players regularly and for completely inexplicable reasons start to switch off and relax well before the job is done.
this happens second to second, minute to minute and quarter to quarter with alarming regularity.
the stringer disallowed goal (ie the 12 pt turnaround) is another perfect example of said characteristic.
I dont know how that snap negleted to bend in, when it actually began to.
The other point is…why didnt Jake just kick it straight ? (perhaps to evade a potential tackler from behind)
What I don’t like about Parish kick is if he shanks the kick it’s likely we lose, soak up your full allowed time play on and kick 60m down the line to a contest is a much better option in my opinion.
He kicked a goal and a bit a game last year and for a 22 year old in his second season that’s pretty bloody good.
Just remember he’s been made to fight for his spot with the arrival of the saints guy and although that’s a good thing it may have rattled his confidence a bit. Looks like he’s trying too hard. He’s had to fight to get where he’s got too and you want that type as long as they’re contributing.
He needs to work on his tackles and kick straight. It’s not like he’s got a list as long as your arm like that Melbourne forward guy (my dementia grows worse) we got.
He won’t be as good as Bewick but we’ve already got a F/S that might be and a bit more.
I just watched the replay again without sound. It is so much better with way less stress without the clearly bias commentating particularly that halfwit Hudson and his out of touch ex Hawthorn player
I’ve watched the last two like this. The Hawks game I listened to the radio. It really is better. You either don’t really see how bad the umpiring is or don’t lose your mind at the “unconscious” bias commentary can bring.
