Essendon Deathride 2026 - we’re getting Arki Butler

Who is “Will”?

And there’s no need to be so formal…

One who buttles.

It’s like “builder”, “painter”, or “clapper”.

Plays like Toby Green according to Cal

Looks blazed and deliberately kicks people on the face?

The numbers do the talking for this one. Outcome will be clinical from what the stats tell us.

We’ve won 12 in a row, this is unlucky 13… so it’s a loss.

Plus we want it* more.

*pick 1

A death ride where you barrack for yourself to lose isn’t quite the same…..

True.

But it’s the only way to make our terrible performances even slightly palatable.

Dreamtime in round 11 is going to be renamed the Arki Butler Cup.

Don’t tease me with this dream.

And watch us scrape over the line for the culture!

if we win, I’m going to open the good cask wine to celebrate the golden Gatorade shower of the new boys.

If we lose, I’m straight back here bragging about our tanking.

It’s a W:W

i actually hope we go 0-23 this year and surely we d get a priority pick in that case. getting 1 and 2 before tasmania would be the only way to save this club otherwise we will be terrible for another 5 years

We go 0-23 some the of the kids will ask for trades they won’t hang around

We need to win 2 or 3 games to show them they have a future with us

Solomon gets the Essendon Deathride…

Terrible weather - go taller!

Small forwards are not what Essendon people do.

Better brother theorem - if Chris Scott can coach then Ben McKay can forward.

Bottom 2 all but locked in now.

Looking at the fixture, I don’t see Richmond having any more than 1 win from here on. They have West Coast at the G as their winnable game and potentially you could make an argument around their games against North and St Kilda if those two fall in a heap. We are not going to catch their percentage so we need to stay a game behind them.

I think we have a few - the obvious one to me is Port at Marvel, plus GWS at Marvel (albeit they have found some form) and potentially Melbourne at the G (albeit they play better there and should have learned from last time). The unknown is (a) whether we can have some better availability in the back end and (b) whether Solomon can get them playing some better football.

The margins are fine. Eyes on the prize.

Given the lack of good ball use, would it be preferable to take Arki Butler at pick 1 instead of HVH?

It takes a lot of fortitude to deathride ourselves to pick 1.

I want the big man, sorry Arki.

I want us to trade up and get Richmond’s pick 2 so we can have both

At pick 1 you take whoever you think is the best player. Irrespective of anything else.

Doubly so when the list needs better players pretty much everywhere.
