Essendon DEFEAT Orange People MATCH REVIEW

Hard as ■■■■.

The only blight on his game is that one flop against us. It’s just raw for us. That’s a pretty good track record over 300 games.

Deserves all the plaudits.

So… who do we have that will provide more run down speed in the forward line?

No one is saying he’s the competition’s best, but who else do we have that will perform the role better?

I haven’t forgotten.

It was a shooting star meme - that stuff is never forgotten.

I think the argument isn’t so much “who will do it better” it’s that he’s barely doing it as is, so we might be better served by someone that impacts alot more in other ways.

For right now anyway

Obviously the coaches value the run down speed, even if it’s only perceived pressure.

We have a game style that starts with us controlling the clearance and ends in locking the ball inside 50. There are many components to locking it in, and when we fail to do so, it often hurts us.

Encouragingly, it looks like we’re beginning to add effective attack from our defensive 50. But our core game plan is all about gaining and keeping control. Not leaving it to chance.

I’ve also been saying we desperately need a quality small forward or two. More than any other position. Gresham started off very well in this role, but has faded a bit in the last few. Menzie showed good signs last year, but just hasn’t managed to get to the same level, much less better, this year.

Tex may get a chance soon. Jayden will likely be longer, but may offer more. Hind has been tried there, but not shown much when played there for a whole game.

Otherwise, we need to add a Hobbs or Tsatas, and hope the extra rotation in the midfield will make up for the reduction in pressure in the forward line. Clearly the coaches aren’t prepared to reduce the speed in our forward line just yet.

If anything good comes out of these dives, it’s these clips.

Why does everyone (non Essendon) always instantly smile when the 7000+ days without a finals win comes up . Huddo and Montagna with a sh¡t eating grin.
