Essendon delisting discussions 2026

retirement homes get internet access now? Good for you

Walk me through how?

Say we signed Guelfi, Jones for a year each and Blakiston for 1 year extension - what have we lost?

If we wanted to keep any of them for longer (ie Guelfi last year or Jones this year), I don’t think we would’ve had any competition. At all.

Certainly would’ve gained some flexibility, at the very least. Which may have helped in scenarios like needing to restructure Draper.

If any of them were picked off we would’ve spent approx. 7 seconds bemoaning their departure and found someone about as good.

Ah yes, but we sacked a coach. Ergo it was all that coach’s problem. Haven’t people learnt by now?

Why no more delistings

We think all our listed players are premiership material.

Now that we have 2 extra rookie spots can we use them to delist guys from the main list to then rrookie them thus really giving ourselves two extra main list spots? Or can’t you do that anymore since the rules changed recently?

Like Nelson in the Simpsons says, “gotta nuke something”, Essendon says “gotta play somebody”

Still can’t believe the Setterfield and Unwin decision, on top of Jones still being on the list.

If Riccardi comes across, you’d think Edwards doesn’t get another year and/or Jones is paid out.

I agree. Looking like Riccardi might stay at GWS and maybe we’ve been played to up his salary. Reported yesterday it’s 50/50 if he stays/goes. Those odds are never good if you’re trying to get a player to leave.

I’d say 50/50 if the odds are good

Wow

I think that makes sense.

Also think there’s an opportunity to delist Jones….. and take Sellars as a DFA. Then the club can assess if they pay Jones out, or pick him up in the rookie draft.

Fair play but Hawks just lost the unloseable, will get Merrett and King. Another club should snaffle him, as I suggested

So who is left in no man’s land currently? Is it just Perkins, Cox, Nguyen, Edwards and Gerryn?

Yep, with question marks over Merrett, Ridley, Parish & McKay.

Does Nguyen come under the same umbrella being Cat B rookie.

He does in that he doesn’t have a contract, but yeah, unless we have a very specific replacement in mind it wouldn’t free up a list spot in the same way as the rest.
