ESSENDON is the most popular club in the AFL

Just shows that we have overcome all manner of adversity no matter how hard the media haters have tried to to destroy us, often with their AFL masters bidding and ASADA's connivance.

ESSENDON is the most popular club in the AFL after it was revealed the Bombers sell the most replica guernseys in Australia.

Figures supplied by Rebel show the Bombers sell more shirts nationwide than cross-city rival Collingwood.

AFL premier Hawthorn came third with the Sydney Swans rounding out the top four.

Adelaide, Carlton, Richmond and Geelong all grabbed a finals place in the AFL guernsey merchandise ladder.

Essendon chief marketing officer Justin Rodski said he was pleased but not surprised by the results of the nationwide Rebel survey.

“We‘re obviously aware that the Essendon brand spreads far and wide and we have a huge supporter base,” he said.

“The red sash is famous throughout the world and has become synonymous with Essendon.

“The red sash is something our fans hold very dearly across their hearts.”

A Sydney Swans spokesman said it was too early to judge the commercial success of its star recruit Lance Franklin, but his No. 23 jersey was already the club‘s bestseller.

“Crowds, membership and television audiences are up this season but it‘s hard to measure the impact any one player has had on those results,” he said.

Several AFL clubs have revealed their top selling numbered guernseys from their club shops.

The most popular Bombers jersey sold was Jobe Watson‘s No. 4, Scott Pendlebury‘s No. 10 was a big hit with Magpies fans, while Cyril Rioli‘s No. 33 sold most at Hawthorn.

Joel Selwood‘s No. 14 rules at Geelong with Trent Cotchin‘s number No. 9 roaring loudly at Richmond.

Nathan Jones‘ No. 2 jumper was most popular at the Demons while St Kilda‘s Lenny Hayes No. 7 edged out Nick Riewoldt‘s No. 12.

Brent “Boomer” Harvey‘s No. 29 was the big seller at North Melbourne with Luke Dahlhaus‘ No. 6 guernsey a firm favourite at the Bulldogs.

After claiming the wooden spoon for the least number of nationwide guernsey sales, GWS Giants were also the only AFL club in the country not to sell numbered guernseys to its fans.

The club does not sell numbered replica guernseys to supporters

Come on, we really know its Collingwood.   They just don't record stolen guernseys.

Shame it doesn’t translate to home attendances…

Saw the first two lines of an article by Infractions Ralph the other day (two lines too many from that flog) starting with "The AFL's two biggest clubs Hawthorn and Collingwood...." Makes you realise how far we've dropped off the ball. Disappointing I reckon.

Shame it doesn't translate to home attendances....

But good that we have reach - many fans all over the country and overseas who can't often get to games. Dedicated fans nonetheless.

Shame it doesn't translate to home attendances....

We have the 3rd highest average home game attendance in the AFL this year, 45 067. Only Collingwood and Adelaide have drawn more people to home games. If you include away games, only Collingwood averages bigger crowds than us.

Felt like about 10,000 yesterday though.

i dont think this is the case. youd think memberships are the best indicator for club popularity, and Colliwobbles wins that hands down. i notice The Bomber Shop is the best as far as selling merch goes. good prices, lots of sales and well promoted (example; Bombas Bye Round team selection vid). I see Bomber guernseys on sale regularly around the $80-$90 mark where as Pies and other clubs like Richmond its usually abour $100-$110.

We dont have to be the most popular club, we just need to be the best club.... which we are.

Shame it doesn't translate to home attendances....

This.
It's disappointing knowing we have 60k+ members and only half turned up to yesterday's game. Was a perfect time with beautiful weather. Should be getting 40k when the visitors are interstate teams.
Hopefully we can rectify this in 2015.

We’ll the nuff-nuffs (Collingwood) have 70K + members and barely scraped 30K v Brisbane, so you have to say that Pies fans have stayed away since their season turned to tripe…

It always feels that way with the roof open.

Fantastic atmosphere with the roof shut and we're surging.

@$99.95 I can't believe they've sold any.

You will never sell out these games against interstate clubs and thank god for that..gives the other hundreds of thousands of supporters a chance to see a match. Collingwood don't sell out against Gold Coast either

Regarding attendances, if we were still at the g would that make much of a difference, I believe so.

i dont think this is the case. youd think memberships are the best indicator for club popularity, and Colliwobbles wins that hands down.

Don‘t know if it‘s still true, but a couple years back we were winning on actual money gained from memberships.

Strange proxy to use jumper sales to indicate levels of popularity… Are those figures from Rebel stores only?

Shame it doesn't translate to home attendances....

Not unexpected really...

People have been worn down by the constant jekyll and hyde bullshit over the last 10 years.

Sort that out and the crowds will be through the roof once again.

Keep losing to farking melbourne though......

Membership tallies are a bit misleading though.

Last year we had 56,173 members of which 42,614 had match day access. So just under a quarter of members did it purely to support the club financially, with no intention of going to games.

If we assume that this year's figures are roughly the same, then we have around 46,000 match day members this year. That includes 3-game memberships which I assume don't give access to games against interstate teams.

Wonder if it's middle aged men buying the Rioli jumpers now that Franklin has left.

Never said sell out. Nearly impossible against interstate sides (unless it's a final).
But higher attendance would be nice. Should be pushing 40k for interstate and 50k+ for teams such as Hawks and Cats.
