awaits Toto - Africa intro
- Rwanda is treating F1 as part of a bigger tourism and investment push.
- The race is planned around the new Bugesera airport area.
- The circuit would be a permanent venue, not just a one-weekend setup.
- F1 has agreed to a 10-year deal.
- The first race is expected in the early 2030s.
- Hosting fees could be tens of millions of dollars a year.
- Building the circuit could also cost tens or even hundreds of millions.
- Rwanda is unlikely to rely on ticket sales alone to make it work.
- Foreign or private backing may help, but the full funding plan is not public yet.
- The big question is whether the tourism and investment return is worth the public cost.
My first thought was Qatari money and the dream sequences from Wayne’s World
I’ll also add that the accommodation costs at the 2025 Road cycling World Championship were exorbitant, even by western standards. I suspect they will need to rein in their prices if they want the F1 to be the lynchpin of their tourism.
It appears that the spray from the cars in front is a bigger issue than the rain or slipperiness of the track itself. Why don’t they just put mud guards on the cars?
They won’t. It’s just an expensive place overall. It’s one of those places that you know will cost you more. I did joke with friends who asked about it and I said it’s a third world country with first rate prices. ![]()
Was it any worse in years gone by?
It should just be part of the challenge.
TBH, it would make for better racing as the drivers could see where they were going and go faster. The roads would still be slippery meaning they were likely to slide off the track.
I’m tipping it’s more about these stupid farkin cars, and the rain, slow starts, delayed starts, making the computer confused.
The Malaysian GP was farcical. The more you hear about the control these computers have over the cars, it’s laughable.
They could probably get an AI driven car to win a GP.
Funny tyre strategies in Qualifying. Red Bulls only on one set of softs for Q1 and Q2.
Oscar used mediums for Q1 and were Mercedes
McClaren, specifically Oscar no where near it today
I’d say it’s more of the RB team have caught up to MERC. Heck, even the Ferraris looked fast.
McLaren just going through the motions.
McLaren on one stop strategy. Lando moaning Oscar is holding him up, I hope he puts it into the wall.
Oscar’s car is struggling
Leclerc flying. Ferrari have got this spot on
Oscar is struggling. 25 seconds behind lando on the same strategy.
Good job by Oscar to keep Russell behind him.
The contrast from the Sky commentator.
‘Oscar is just holding up Russell, pretty much ruined his race’
‘Lando is doing a superb job at keeping Verstappen at bay, what a great drive on old tyres.’
Lando has to stop whinging and stop asking for the team to let him past oscar , if you cant overtake him on track you are not good enough, just ■■■■ off
