Enright and Kelly probably felt that fc would be a safer option for a first time coach. They wouldn’t be wrong either.
Imagine they don’t appoint Fraser then lose their opening match to Richmond next year lol
Josh F has another week to decide (mainly due to the death of his dad, very recently).
I disagree…FC would have been nervous of repeating the Teague experience and would not have been telling Fraser the gig was his…especially in the early to mid stages of his temporary tenure.
But a 9-2 record including a thrashing of the reigning premiers would have given Fraser a lot of brownie points towards getting the job.
That’s just bad luck for Enright and Kelly…and if they pulled out of the Essendon process, then we shouldn’t give them a look in if they have changed their minds because they clearly didn’t want the job…demonstrated by withdrawing from the process.
100% agree.
Assistant options for EFC though?
The process should only be for assistant coaches anyway. They know that.
Edit. Fark carlton.
It’s sloth from the goonies.
Edit - could also be brad Sewell after the loyd hit.
So Enright and Kelly only wanted the Fark Carlton job. With Josh Fraser now nominating - I think Kelly and Enright return to their assistants jobs. I don’t feel sorry for them.
I’ve posted that clubs are too heavily influenced by the media and the footy industry in how they appoint coaches. Clubs should employ their own method to select coaches and avoid the media noise because in effect carlton have wasted the time of prospective coaches, yet, there is no mention of this in the media.
Carlton. Fark 'em, eh?
Their team is old AF. All their best players besides Jagga and Walsh are ancient.
They aren’t going anywhere soon, we will pass them in blink of an eye
I reckon I’ve heard similar things said about Collingwood over way too many years.
Uh huh.
They’re about to add Cody Walker, they’ve got Harry Dean looking like he’ll be their defensive pillar for the next 15 years, and most of their improvement under Fraser has come through players like Cowan, Byrne, Wilson, and Kemp starting to look AFL quality.
I really hope you are right but gee, I think they might be ok in the long run.
Their best players have been Hewitt, Cripps, Gov, pittonet who are all over 30 plus Jagga and Walsh.
This is a polished turd if ever I’ve seen one
They’ve been extremely lucky to have Dean and Walker coming through the pipeline and that deal with the eagles for Jagga if you take those 3 away they really are in dire straights - my only question is did they fall blindly into their current list or did they take risks and have a point on guys because they knew their ass was covered?
They are on the right path.
Weight has come in and got to work rebalancing their cap, let Curnow go who didn’t want to be there, took the compo for De Koening and Silvagni and now with the change of coach (whoever ends up being) they actually have some clear air.
Their culture, like ours but not as bad, had been a big problem for them but moving on problem players and a tweak of game plan has them playing like they are enjoying their football, not like they have the world on their shoulders.
The list will come with it, but they have got to work fixing the bigger problems they had and will be far better for it.
We could learn something.
It would be lovely if Voss was still in charge, they were contested footy reliant and mentally fragile…but their last block of footy suggests they’ve turned a corner.
Frasier has got their ball movement going and suddenly they are less reliant on stars and all their lesser lights look very good.
Reckon the could replicate Melbourne next year and should he targeting the top 6. It gives me no joy to say this…
Fark Carlton.
That is all.
From the bits i’ve seen when flicking across to a game they looked good - lots of run, pressured the opposition and played with freedom. And they’re winning.
