Does anyone else think they need to make a change to the father son rule somewhat?
Twomey did a very early call on the number 1 pick this year and its a kid who’s dad played for the Lions.

Lets say Brisbane win the cup this year, I cannot see how its fair for the competition for them to have access to the best kid in the draft without paying some sort of penalty.

The penalty is draft points. If the kid goes at pick 1, the Lions will need to cough up a significant amount of draft capital to get him. It’s not like they’re getting him for free.

No. Cos it will come into effect when we finally have some father sons worth drafting

Are the draft points they will have to forfeit enough to equal out the fact that the best team in the competition is getting the best kid in the draft though?

I don’t know. Maybe. It’s a pretty decent whack to their draft hand.

I don’t think it’s worth worrying too much about, though. It works the same for every team and could quite easily work in our favour in the future. It’s all just a matter of timing.

The only thing that I think should happen is dropping the discount for F/S and academy kids.

The father son rule is not supposed to be fair, it’s supposed to make it easy for kids to play at the same club their dad did.

The points are huge. Pick 1 is 3000 pts and 2 is 2400 IIRC.

Not sure why you’d be saying this since we got Joe who should have been 1 less than a decade ago and have Davey twins this year and potentially Bewick being a star too

yep I would keep quiet we don’t want them changing the rules again.

“Potentially”??

I’ve already got him locked in.

Ahead of Munkara?

Hmm, I thought there was more than a 2yr gap between the two Eyres, but could he be in the squad as an under-ager?

Yeah I keep forgetting about Munkara since I keep thinking he won’t be available to us lol

Eyre would be in as a bottom ager

No. Because at the end of the day the F/S rule is totally random. You don’t know which players will have male kids, which of those will perform, which year they’ll perform in, and where they’ll be rated in the draft. As its totally random, over a LONG period it shouldn’t distort the draft one way or another. Given the benefits to engaging the fan base and the tradition, it should definitely be retained. The current system is pretty good, the main problem is they allow matching with picks which are too low in the draft. You shouldn’t be able to match with picks more than 1 round later than the round the player is picked in.

We weren’t the top of the ladder when we got Joe.
Thats my entire point.
And if we were Id still say it, im not being bias.
It was more of a question anyway I wasn’t completely sure how the rule worked.

Stop giving the afl ideas for rule changes to bring in for Bewick’s draft year

I am unaware on Munkara. Anyone have any details on him?

Did anybody see this? I wonder if it’s possible they will abolish the top 40 in time for this years draft…

try the NGA thread or James Hird academy thread he isn’t a father son

But that could potentially benefit us. No chance.
