Father Son Watch (2017 onwards)

don the stat podcast, monologue episode, DYOR

I find it fascinating when I’m making an accusation of Covert Rascism at the club, that someone is asking for the non-circumstantial evidence.

Perhaps doing some research on ‘Covert Racism’ is beneficial.

This is where the advantage of having both Daveys and wanganeen helps us, they already have that strong family connection that will help other indigenous kids for into the club and find a family away from home.

I think Richmond and Hawthorne’s success with indigenous kids has shown the importance of having a group coming through together. It is helped by having an elder around too as Richmond had in Edwards and hawks had with Burgoyne.

We really need to invest in indigenous leadership, either on field or off field, preferably both

Let’s add Lloyd Johnston and Munkara as well.

Wouldn’t say no to Sydney stack either, I think our goodie goodie squad can bore him into maturity

You might want to check that definition yourself. You made an accusation of explicit racism and specified a particular event had taken place.

If you’re going to make ■■■■ up don’t be surprised when people call you on it.

I would give wanganeen a official role if he has moved back to Vic.
can keep an eye on Tex and help all the other young indigenous boys out, plus helps him get out of the house with all the girls.

Nat rat is the guy we need back.

I’d love to steal betts away from the cats too, I think he’d love working with the Daveys

Wrong.

The club can (and does) claim they don’t have the resources to take on an aboriginal players who needs the added layer of support. That is seen as justifiable by the club, yourself and many supporters.

And that is exactly what I’m calling out.

The club is covertly racist, and they are not the only ones. The whole AFL system is covertly racist. The fact that people think it’s justified or the clubs actions are defendable is the whole problem.

Poach Eddy and Stengel :joy:

Have I mentioned that I said we should have taken him in that mid season draft and people were like “No way, he’s got too many issues”. I am sick of people saying we should overlook good footballers because of their off field issues.

Isn’t it more a case of having a look at our current Indigenous programs and working out why some aspects might not be working well.

Club obviously put in place Leanne Brooke who is the clubs Indigenous affairs advisor to the players and setup Indigenous academy Ngaalang Miya for young kids… as well as the First Nations Women’s Pathway Program early this year. This connects women footballers in Tiwi Islands

Would be good to understand how the club in the external review see hows these programs are going. All only setup in recent years so maybe little data as yet to fully understand

I find it fascinating that you seem to think it’s a good idea to libel the club

In the shorter term, I’m hoping that with Tex and the Daveys at the club, we can hopefully get Gavin and Froggy involved a bit with the indigenous program. Especially with someone like Munkara potentially being around the place. The successful indigenous programs always seem to have some older blokes around, not just a bunch of kids trying to muddle through on their own. On-field that side of things fell apart for us when Ryder left and we never managed to put it back together again. Maybe the dads can help fill the void a bit until some of the kids get a bit older.

Ryder is available

get him to walk into the place and tell us if it is the right vibe or not :joy:

Yeah that was the point I made in the original post. And I hope an external review leads to a systematic change within the frameworks of the organisation.

The individuals are important. But the club needs to change its systems, so that no matter who is leaving the club…… that the indigenous programs aren’t falling over like they did when Sheedy/NatRat left the club.

We don’t want a repeat situation for the last 15 years, where the club claims they are the leaders in this space, yet not providing opportunities… and not resourcing community programs.

Courtney Dempsey has been taking care of the Davey boys, Betts has his cats role but he also assists kids coming down from NT most recently with Waylon Davey

Please point me to where the club has claimed this.

Now you’re speaking for me heh? No, the above wouldn’t be acceptable to me.

Again, you are using the term incorrectly. What you’re describing is overt racism. If what you’re claiming was true then the club is explicitly saying players who would be drafted except for their race and background have a line drawn through their name. That’s stereotyping You are claiming the board explicitly ordered recruiters not to draft indigenous players.

You’ve said the club has claimed they’re doing this. I’d love to see this evidence.

So are we absolutely sure that Alwyn Jr isnt Waylon’s dad, can we DNA test him just to prove it?
