Father Son Watch (2017 onwards)

I thought pickett was due to be selected in MSD then after injury we were due to select him with our second pick, but Richmond got in first. would have been silly to carry him for rest of year, and miss opportunity at first crack of fit players.

I would pick Snelling ahead of pickett now though. Pickett would have been better than our second pick, which we passed.

You’d select Snelling over Pickett??

Come on, mate. That is some serious Essendon bias right there.

Yeh your probably right, Pickett would fill snellings role better and be more dangerous

After his first year he has been pretty consistent in being available too.
Pickett has 2 flags + his VFL one

Snelling has played 50 games, and top 10 B&F result.

Why would recruiting decisions EVER be run past the board?

Well I don’t know maybe when a guy has got out of JAIL!

It’s not a crazy comparison.

Pickett’s about a zillion times better ball user, Snelling’s pretty much all effort, but they’re on the same page IMHO.

For the two years that Pickett and Snelling have been injury free (2020 & 2021) Snelling has had equal or usually higher disposals, goals, tackles, score involvements and goal assists

But most importantly, he’s five years younger. Age alone makes Snelling the better player for our list right now.

Really, it would be nicest to have both.

This is correct. EFC had called SFFC and told them they were taking Pickett with their second pick.

We had pick 7 in that MSD, and we got 1 of the total of 3 useful player.

I can live with that.

Pickett is 31 next year, Snelling 25.

For where our list demographic is and when we are aiming to contend, Snelling was the right choice.

So you’re telling me Pickett wouldn’t be a 2 time premiership player if we had drafted him?

Snelling will be 45 by the time we are ready to contend.

If we had drafted Pickett, we could have got his kids under father-son rule by the time we are ready to contend.

Does anyone know if William Hird has played more footy at a similar age to his brothers?

More than zero?

My key takeaways:

  • Alex Alessio is 197cm at 16! Been invited into the Calder Cannons program.
  • Two others made the Cannons program, Hamilton and Barnard who are both 16.
  • Taitum Dempsey won his U12 B&F
  • I did not realise how many kids from the 1992-2002 period are coming through.
  • Isaac Kako may go Top 40 :frowning:

I already knew about Bewick!

If Kako grows above 180 and stays healthy we won’t get him, here’s hoping he’ll be a Touk style slider. Or the AFL comes to their senses and change the rules.

Why when I watch Alwyn Davey Jnr playing, I’m slightly underwhelmed.
Watching him in the game today, and previous games, is a lot of running around but not much else?
Have I just watched average games or am I missing something?
