My daughter tried out for the School Sports Victoria basketball squad. This is the same type of thing. They do teams for a range of sports. You have to get a form signed by your school principal and PE teacher that you’ve achieved a high level in sport. The number of kids from any individual school is limited.
A lot of people aren’t even aware of SSV, so they obviously don’t try out.

Unfortunately - it is far more ‘family and friends danger’ than anything else. Stranger Danger is a cop-out/myth.
Whilst the incidence of family and friends would be high, to call stranger danger a myth/cop out is ridiculous in the extreme. There have been incidents recently of children approached by strangers. What did they not happen.
Probably choose your words more wisely.

The words myth/ cop out implies there is no risk from strangers. Its poor wording, intentional or not.
I’m sorry if my wording causes you stress. It’s not my intention.
The term has been used for a long time. It focuses parents and carers attention on strangers, when the reality is - most abuse of children is perpetrated by family and family friends. That’s a horrible thing to acknowledge. Certainly there is danger from strangers - but the reality is - there is a greater danger, in this area - from family and friends. People should know and understand this. I think pushing the ‘stranger danger’ angle too much is counter-productive.
