Father Son Watch (2017 onwards)

I have not seen anywhere that he is likely to be a first rounder. Late pick seems to be the consensus.

I agree but you’ll be happy to know he’s already slimmed down a bit recently. Looks more toned already.

Fletcher and Watson went OK as FS !

@noobermensch any idea of where the Davey’s cousin will be playing this year?
Waylon Davey-Motlop , would be awesome if he could get down to Essendon VFL or Essendon Lite Port Melbourne with Jayden.

Sorry I don’t. Sometimes over age kids will play an extra season in the Talent League, but we don’t have the full squad lists yet as far as I’m aware. He’s not registered with Port Melbourne.

If Jayden Davey has a good season with Port you recon the club will redraft him?

I really don’t know. I thought it was a little strange that he was delisted and we kept Menzie, I would have given Jayden another season given he only had the one full season back from the knee reco. Maybe there were other contributing factors.

I probably would have also kept Tex on the list so maybe I’m just too sentimental.

Yeah Menzie was an interesting one - even if they would’ve still done it anyway, I still don’t get why they made the call in July to re-sign a fringe player that no-one’s coming for.

It was more Goldy (and Shiel if we had a buyer) staying on that surprised me.

Overall pretty happy with the list-changes though, especially given the early glimpses of Edwards, Johnson & ADW who we took with those final list spots.

Hopefully kept him to give to Tassie

If Huss El Ackhar becomes a first round pick, he will have had a very very good year and no one would be disappointed. Guys at 171cm don’t go that high unless they are exceptional.

For a first round pick, thank you very much.

Alijah Davey played 1 reserves and 2 senior NTFL games during the school holidays.

Caveat: for the worst team in the league.

You say it as though it can be taken as fact.
Do you have anything to actually back that up?

I would think from Jobe and Dustin alone we are doing better than a lot of clubs.

As an EFC supporter, you would see the names of every potential father/son coming through in this thread, and see the majority aren’t even drafted. But on the flip side, the only potential father sons for other clubs you’d even hear about are the ones that do get drafted.

And when there’s 13/14 clubs worth of hits compared to 1 clubs worth of mostly misses, it leads to false assumptions.

So we draft him with a nothing pick haha

I’d say the last decent father son we have taken was Daniher in 2012 and your talking about Watson who was drafted 23 years ago and fletcher who was taken thirty years ago.
I think it’s a fair statement to say that they we haven’t been great at development in general let alone giving additional resources to potential free recruits.

thats a good game, positions himself well to either be there for the spill or to support his teammates.

WANT

to be fair about it, his handball game is good, but i think his kicking he’d need to just do the sensible thing, not sure hes got close to that merrett change up the angles field kicking

I doubt it.
Theres probably stuff in the way he prepared himself why he got the boot. Took him ages to get fit post knee.

As far as AFL attributes his blazing pace, looked like a genuine small forward. had more AFL attributes than Menzie IMO.
But then you look at what kako has done in such a short time and you probably realise that he was still a bit of a long shot.

Scott wanting a fitter list moving on players with injury history of multiple acls - Hunter, Baldwin, Davey.

Another father son prospect we need to keep an eye is David Rodan’s son Tevita, who is highly rated and eligible to us through the James Hird Academy.

Obvious he is a Melbourne boy, plays for St Bernie’s, and may not wish to move to SA away from his family and friends. Could be a bit of blakey situation

Same draft at Bewick and just as talented.

He has a few younger brothers too.

Honestly not to sure how he is in our academy as Pacific islanders and kids born to Pacific islanders are not yet eligible

Is he taller than 5ft.

Because he is from a disadvantaged background, being the son of an umpire and all
