Mitch Wallis was a jet until the snapped leg
This is exactly my point. A few clubs have struck gold with a couple of players, so you complain why are everyone elses father sons better than ours.
But across the competition as a whole, we aren’t worse than everyone else.
And if wait another 2 years, there’ll be every likelihood people will be envious of what’s coming our way.
At what point did I complain ?.
I was simply asking a question on people’s thoughts and voicing an opinion that I think we should be trying to do more in this space to increase our chances of success.
I then pointed out we have only had three good ones over the last thirty years
You asked why our father sons are not as good as everyone elses.
Whether you call it complaining, or not, I don’t care. It’s besides the point… that being that the premise of your question (that you took as fact without any evidence as such) is inaccurate.
Our father sons have not been worse than the majority of clubs. Albeit there are a small number of clubs who are well in front of the rest.
Ultimately, we are talking about an extremeley small pool of kids here. Only those players who played 100 ganes for us, who happened to have kids, and 1 or more of those kids happens to be boys, and those boys actually play football, and those kids actually derive favourable genetics from their parents to work with… We are talking on average about 1-3 kids/year.
I don’t know if the JHA is under resourced or not, but Kako has come out of it ready to go R1. So that might suggest it has done its job well in this instance.
Daniher was a generational player and father son and for whatever reason it didnt work out. We had our chance…
Daniher is also a strange cat, ask anyone that knows him, he walks to the beat of his own drum.
All players above 100 games get a premium subscription to the dating app of their choice and free coffee and cake for two for a naughty catchup at the Bomber cafe.
We must be getting desperate. End of round 1 and the father son is getting a working over.
I agree with you on this. People are looking at the clubs that have gotten lucky and ignoring the clubs that have gotten almost nothing from their father sons.
North - just drafted River Stevens and he’s only the 5th selection in their history, none of them have been better than decent AFL players.
Hawks - considering the champs they’ve had over the years their father sons picks have been lean. The best was probably Josh Kennedy who they ditched before he became a star.
Dees - Jack Viney clearly the best of an otherwise very average bunch.
Saints - basically nothing. David Sierakowski the only one to have made any impact.
Adelaide - basically nothing up until Max Michalanney a couple of years ago who looks good.
Sydney - very little. Tom Mitchell was a father son for them, but he moved to the Hawks for very little before he became a star.
Richmond - they got Matty Richardson back in 1992 and then Joel Bowden in 1995 but almost nothing since then (Maurice Rioli jnr but he hasn’t really established himself yet).
Port Adelaide - Brett Ebert was a solid AFL player, and Jase Burgoyne is emerging, but that’s all they’ve had
So when you look at the bulk of the rest of the league I’d say that we’re at least middle of the pack if not solidly in the top half in terms of father son gains.
What’s happening with Boris Bewick’s boy?
He’s 16, which is where things start to get serious, and where he’ll have to decide whether he’s going to commit to a footy lifestyle. He might get a game with eastern ranges this year if he’s legit a prodigy, some 16yos do if they’re physically developed enough to handle it (Rowell did, for instance)
Probably the u16 champs is where to really look to get a gauge on how he’s progressing. See if he makes the squad, see if he makes the team, see how he goes if he does.
The super talented 16 year olds often get a few games in the back half of the season after the U16 champs.
The champs games will be an opportunity to compare him against his elite age group peers.
Eastern or Calder? He’s a strathie kid isn’t he?
Yeah, you’re right, probably Calder. I automatically associate Boris with Eastern cos he coached them for so long.
Think he’s looking to play mostly at Strathmore this year.
Taj Woewodin looked to be turning into a decent player before his injury this year
North should have had Blakey.
swans had Josh Dunkley too who is a very good player, but they passed on him.
and they have the academy too.
