Favourite Movie From Each Year Of The 1980s

Moving on…we come to the 3rd thread in the Favourite Movie Series.

This one is for the 1980s

The rules are simple…if you’re not sure or don’t have one for a particular year, just leave it blank.

And no fence sitting allowed…no double/triple entries…make a decision!!! (or not as seems to be the case with some dedicated movie followers)

So here’s my effort:

1980 The Blues Brothers

1981 Das Boot

1982 First Blood

1983 Scarface

1984 Ghostbusters

1985 Pale Rider

1986 Platoon

1987 Full Metal Jacket

1988 Die Hard

1989 Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

A rather lean decade (imo) for good movies although it did deliver a couple of my all time favourites in 1986 and 1987

The 80’s was my childhood so many favourite movies. I didn’t know if I should pick all time movies like Bladrunner or go with the actual movies that defined me at the time. Went for the big blockbuster kids movies that I watched and rewatched dozens of times on VCR. Still had to put scarface in though. I think the kids movies of the 80’s are the best of any era.

1980 - empire strikes back
1981 - Raiders of the Lost Ark
1982 - The Dark Crystal
1983 - Scarface
1984 - The Never Ending Story
1985 - Goonies
1986 - Aliens
1987 - Princes Bride
1988 - Die Hard
1999 - Bill and Teds excellent adventure.

I’m sure I’m gonna leave Bill and Ted out, but it’ll be tough.

Yeah it’s trash.

89 didn’t have much on offer, 4th July or my left foot or dead poets but that didnt fit my theme.

But 8 year old me freaken loved Bill and Ted, would have watched it 50 times.

Some of these nominations are already making me feel old. I remember going to see Planes, Trains,… , plus Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. Then there was First Blood as a legit High School CBD visit. Such a great movie to see on the big screen. For those who lived through the 80s, you’ll understand how gifted we were as Essendon supporters and beyond. What a decade.

So much quality.

1980 - The Empire Strikes Back
1981 - Clash of the Titans
1982 - The Beastmaster
1983 - Vacation
1984 - The Karate kid
1985 - Tuff Turf
1986 - Highlander
1987 - The Untouchables
1988 - Coming to America
1989 - Road House

For this era I tried to remember what I actually thought at the time to give it some variety. Still enjoy all the movies on my list but a few of the ones that appealed to me as a teenager are probably no longer my faves from those years. I didn’t really get into horrors until late 80’s & a few of the more adult content movies i didn’t see until later.
