5.15 grand final for me.
But what I think doesn’t matter because they are going to do a twilight grand final anyway.
And when they do, daytime grand finals will never return.
That would majorly suck.
If you want watch twilight night games move to Perth.
The only reason 5.30 is good is to replace night games so the game ends at a reasonable time to enjoy the aftermath as well.
It it was me if be playing all night games at 6.30(after the stations news) eg friday night
And id have 2pm /6.30 games on weekends.

Eh. Isn’t really about that.
It’s what the TV broadcasters want, so it will happen. I reckon maybe even next year, but more likely the year after.
But I won’t be upset by it because I like it.
Last nights 5.30 slot is better than 7.30 because it ends at 8.30
And then the tv networks can put on a movie.
But for foxsports it doesnt matter

Eventually the broadcasters will put their foot down on this issue, demand a twilight/night grand final, and that’ll be that. Won’t go back after that point.
Basically makes it impossible for anyone that finishes work at 5:30 to get home to pick up the kids and head into the game. Or grab a bite to eat before the game.

Excuse to watch the game with workmates after
Plenty of people pick up their kids at 3.30 for the school run
When we won’t see families with children of all ages in their club colours to watch their team.
In the hybrid work era that means making up your 1 to 2 hours of school runs a day earlier and later in the day
Broadcasters believe twilight grand final will attract increased viewership, which will attract greater advertising revenue, which will encourage broadcasters to pay more for the rights, which works for the AFL.
Its isn’t about the news or movies. It is absolutely about maximising advertising revenue and broadcasting rights.

Well suprisingly in Western Sydney just the other week the talk with work colleagues(none regular season afl fans at all).
They all LOVE the 2-3pm grandfinal. Lots and lots of people in the burbs see it as an opportunity to have a bbq, kids jump in the pool. Fire up the pizza oven/bbq.
Afternoon is way more social for the grand final as an event. Helps give the whole day a buzz too.
The afternoon grand final already rates.
Its also one of the best days to be in the pub all year after probably Anzac day for the same reason.

Afternoons in Sydney on NRL GF Day, blokes getting drunk in pubs. The day when domestic violence peaks.
Yeah, I get that you like it. I don’t mind it either. But the pub still exists for twilight grand finals, so do BBQs.
It’s about broadcasting and money. That’s it.
These are the things that drive scheduling decisions in line with prime time viewership, and will again.

NRL grand final sucks at night. Its a non event.
Even a lot of leagueies hate it.
The only thing its got going for it is the half time entertainment looks better at night. Thats it

I love the twilight slot….to replace night games.
Not kill the day grandfinal.
Showpiece events work better during the day.
It makes Anzac Day so special too.
And they dont need any more tv viewers. Anzac day and GF day would already be two of the highest rating timeslots all year
Anzac Day won’t change, but the night before Anzac Day is also pretty impressive.
I’m not debating with you about what you like. I get that.
But this decision won’t be based around what a certain percentage of supporters prefer or what they are used to.
Scheduling is largely driven by broadcaster preference. They will get their way.

This is actually a genuinely ridiculous thing to say. Go to the AFL or channel 7 and say this.
The league doesn’t exist without advertising, gambling and broadcasting revenue. It drives everything. They will change anything if it means more viewers because more viewers equals more money.

In hope the AFL sees sense and makes both days sacrosanct.
Can you imagine the follow up audience they can capture after a day grandfinal vs a twilight or night?
If your event is already saturated with eyeballs its what you can capitalise on either side.
Its win win to leave them during the day
