Finals 2024 - Thank Fark it’s over now

The proposed start time is closer to 5pm, not 8pm.

I’m sure people can handle starting their BBQ plans a couple of hours later to enjoy the game.

Kids are on school holidays too so hardly a drama.

It needs to happen and will happen.

I remember the same outcry before the first night final in 1993. Absolute uproar. Now? Crickets.

It isn’t.

They have plenty of data at their fingertips to make these decisions, the follow up viewership after a day grand final = the news.

The revenue generated during the grand final greatly outweighs grandma watching Pete Mitchell instead of Hitchener.

There is no such thing as ‘saturated’ in terms of viewership, there is only capacity for more.

AFL 2024 is finally over for me. Time to hit the golf courses.

If the womens game was where it needed to be you would have its GF as a lead in match at 2. Putting football on from maybe 2 until 8.30 at night.

This grand final will be a huge win for the AFL and broadcasters, likely the biggest viewership they have ever had.

No complaints from me.

I know I’ll get slammed for this but Geelong reminded me of how we play. Obviously they have better small forwards and have form but watching them play made me think that our game style might be on the right track.

Not if Melbourne tunes out.

I don’t think enough of Melbourne will tune out to impact the upswing from casual NSW and QLD.

And in not unrelated news , I’ve one game to go to achieve not watching a single second of this finals series.

It’s actually an interesting perspective because all I have to go off are snippets of match reviews , and it seems momentum is such a high driver of things. Gws squander a lead , possibly it shapes their outlook, next week Brisbane come from a long way back against Giants and that belief can keep them rolling. Perhaps.

Do people really not watch because there’s no Vic team? Our team hasn’t played in the grand final for 23 years. I still watch all the finals and especially the grand final. It doesn’t matter to me whether there is a Vic team playing or not.

If you’re still working at 5.30 on a Friday you deserve to miss the footy.

I’m not watching because I’ve no real interest in footy atm. I can’t stand the Vic teams that were in it, and no desire to watch Sydney, Brisbane , port etc either. So no, it’s not because it’s an interstate GF . I’ve not watched any of the others either.

When I watch non Essendon games I usually feel myself leaning one way or the other. But with these two I dont have that feeling… I dislike them both evenly.

I may change during the week…but at this stage I’ll be doing other things than watching the GF.

Lets face it who wants to see Paply just about blow his tweeds after kicking a goal…or watching Daniher kicking straight when he couldnt do it for us

Maybe the timing of the finish means older grandmas ( and grandpas) as well as young children are in bed by then. And families and friends of all ages don’t congregate together to watch the game.
But yes, the money….

Then I admire how much you hate Collingwood and Carlton

EDIT: Forgot Carlton snuck in.

Last nights game was the best end to end game ive seen in some time.

Cracking game of footy.

You can’t just enjoy the game of footy?

Last night’s game was brilliant

They can still do that in a twilight game.

And yes, the money.

I hope that the powerful people in footy still fight for it to be an arvo game.

The broadcasters dont get that its in part whats grown the game.

Example. I hosted a grand final bbq a couple of years back - invited canadians/americans/soccer obsessed locals etc who hadnt watched a game all year.

Since then when we catch up a couple of them all they wanna do is talk footy.

All night games doesnt drive in corporate speak “engagement” . Its just more convenient for those already converted.
