Former #10 Sam Weideman

3 decades, you mean? Surely?

He’s earnt it. That game he played was amazing.

going by the opening posts in here, expectations were positive when he came to us - but it just hasn’t panned out that way

shame he didn’t have the confidence to play the was he was built

We were hoping that he would turn into a decent forward like Wright. I put Wrights improvement down to Rutten.

But what happenned was Wright turned into Weideman avoiding body contact post shoulder injury and collision with Bin chicken Cunningham.

So Weed is right ?

I can confidently say I at no time have been positive about his recruitment. I also wasn’t happy about 2MP, but he proved to be semi useful for 1 season.

Great guy never met him

I think he’s suggesting that Weed is Wright

For me, I just hope Reid is right

I think maybe we’re just assessing whether or not we should try and turn him into a midfielder before we let him loose on B grade local footy.

Won’t be long now…surely.

Remember when this guy kicked 5 against the Cats? lol.

His dreamtime game last year was such a sliding doors moment. Kicked two in the first quarter, was looking dangerous, then missed 3 absolute sitter set-shots. From that point, he kicked 0.5 over the next 7 games. Career over.

just seems to have the same mentality of aaron francis. drops his bundle when things dont go his way. shame, really.

Gee you guys are making it sound like its all over, he is 27 we could potentially get at least 6 more years out of him

I must admit I read this quickly and read it as “6 more games out of him” and thought, correct.

Very good comparison.

Francis would mess up his first kick, then game over, all in his head.

Pfft, you wish.

The last game I’ve been able to attend was that one. Yep, the Weid started well leading up the ground taking marks and goals etc. Then he just seemed to stop believing or sumthin’. Hit post, another easy one OBOTF and he was gone.

I thought the size of the crowd and the day just got to him. Was bizarre and frustrating to watch him wilt and then sink without trace in the next 6-7 games. I did wonder later if that concussion and hit he took vs Giants a fortnight before somehow blew his confidence away …

Guess we’ll probably never know, unless a penny drops somewhere inside his head, and he does a Lazarus.

I remember looking at my mate and just thinking ‘did we just pull another 2MP out of absolute obscurity?’

No, no we didn’t - pretty embarrassing for the Cats though at the time

Deserves a 3 year deal.

I went and read all of your 67 posts about Weideman in this thread, and that is an accurate summation.

5 goals is 5 goals so it’s clearly a good game by him but I remember going back and looking how he actually got them and only one of the goals (at a pinch) had anything to do with height and size. Essentially, he wasn’t out there performing as a “key tall”, they were goals that a 5 foot 5er could have kicked i.e. they were a combination of handball receives to him running into goal, and uncontested marks.

Again, good performance but his issue has always been that he’s never played with the requisite competitiveness and physicality that you need from your big forwards and even that game didn’t really showcase that.
