What are the conditions that would get you back on the wagon ?

There is a valid argument, which is that Weid could actually be more useful than another Mitch Hibberd, Ned Cahill, Tex Wanganeen type player.

I wouldn’t. We have seen what Weid can and can’t do. He can do very little, he ranks amongst the absolute worst players l have ever seen at this level, and that goes for any club, not just Essendon.

If this really is a super draft that will cause odd delistings elsewhere. Then I think what we are doing is saying a contract will come depending how free agency, trade and drafts play out. With acceptance they may be selling themselves elsewhere.

Anything can happen and trying to bring someone back is always better than unknowns, if you haven’t done any scouting at a lower level. It’s a bit of a sunk cost fallacy but no need to panic yet.

At least there’s a plan B or C. Hopefully D. otherwise the extensions would be in the books by now.

Now excuse me, back to my copium.

A contract should never come, under any circumstance.
He is no good and we literally have Lewis Hayes playing the same position ready to play senior football.

I don’t think this is a ā€˜super draft’.
It’s deep which probably means 40~ decent AFL level players. That’s 3 to 5 delistings (incl some retirements, trades & rookie adjustments). Yet, looking at who teams have delisted, almost all teams have been pretty conservative this year compared to other years.
There will be more later on, but there’s really no need to make list decisions when the cut off period is six weeks away.

Any player without a contract (or being offered a short one year deal) should be considering their options just like Massimo did last year. Adelaide, North and Richmond are yet to delist anyone. Collingwood have made 1 delisting. Two or three other teams have made 2 delistings.

I think it’s pretty clear teams prefer to hang on to players and try and trade them through the trade period than just delist them.

That doesn’t mean I want to keep Weid. But if they think he is borderline (which is their decision to make, not ours) then it’s fine to wait until trade period to see what happens.
