Former #10 Sam Weideman

And right knee.

Wait… So, is he okay??

RIP

They taped his right knee to his foot?
Might be more than a week out.

Not as difficult as you think.

Yeah, he hasn’t had any time to establish himself, though.

He has the opportunity and support, he reportedly has the skill set and motivation. You’d imagine that with these factors in his favour he is more likely to succeed than fail.

Here’s hoping that he can follow Wright’s example and capitalise on the extended exposure at AFL level.

Keep in mind, too, that Wright’s first season with us included some diabolically uncompetitive performances. I expect we’ll get a few of these with Weideman as well.

While this is all true, it must be remembered that both goals and a number of his other stats all came in a 5 minute purple patch.
You’d like him to be contributing throughout the match rather than running hot then cold.

Anyway, plaudits to him for a reasonable first outing. If he can spread his contributions as he did in round 1 - goals, marks in 50, hit up marks, forward pressure, etc - then he should be safeguarded against being a non-factor.

He did take a couple of ruck contests too, right?

Turf toe, eh?

That’s not atypical of all forwards though. At the end of the day, it was a single match and we’ll know better in 21 or so weeks. But if he maintains this level of performance, we’ll be very happy.

Innocuous injury at Essendon.

What a way to end your career.

You want a toe? I can get you a toe. Believe me, there are ways.

except for all those people who can no longer wear thongs

I’m gonna throw my hat in here and say the obvious. Wasn’t a superstar start to his career with us but it was entirely serviceable. I would have him in the side next week based on that game.
Yep, had a purple patch, but I was just as happy with the second effort tackle after the mark attempt. Players in this club have done less and been praised more.
