Former #15 Jayden Laverde - π‹π’π―πžπ“›π“ͺ𝓾𝓰𝓱 𝕃𝔸𝕍 LEFT

It’s quite simple. He was never supposed to play much senior footy this year. Last year too, tbh.

But ironically, for a guy that missed a lot of footy with injuries through the earlier parts of his career, in a season where more or less everyone else broke down, he was last man standing.

β€œI can’t believe we’re still giving him games β€œ is best answered by the above. In fact, it’s only answered by the above. But it’s also the major reason why , with the contract expired, that he doesn’t go around again. He was the back up back up that ultimately we badly needed, but he was still only that.

McCartney’s hateboner for us is clouding his judgement!

I wouldn’t be surprised if the AFL might bring back the Veteran rule (salary cap excluded) now we have no one over 30 who has been at the club for ten years.

Goodluck to LAV, tried his heart out…glad he got his body right and has been pretty durable the last few years.

Does GWS realize that they are taking Essendon players?

Do feel for him. He hasn’t really been in a situation where he could use what talents he had since 22. Always being asked to play on much bigger opponents. He certainly competed and gave it his all. If I were being selfish I would have him signed with the VFL team.
All the best JL.

A good decision for Essendon.

He’ll get picked up somewhere else and play 2 or 3 decent games next season and we’ll get the usual β€œwHy dId wE LeT HiM Go!!!???” from the no idea crew but longer term it’s better for us.

He played tall back because he’d failed forward and wasn’t skilled to play any other position. Lacked agility, slow and had sloppy/poor disposal with some absolute brain fades too.

Tried hard but that’s about it.

I think Laverde will always be a what might have been player. Injury curtailed his growth in his prime development years. I thought there was a pretty good inside midfielder there pre covid if it weren’t for those hamstring strains.

I recall a breakout game in the VFL one day at Frankston. He had probably 30 disposals inside midfield. Interestingly, that same day Jimmy Stewart kicked about 4-5 goals in the first half…. Stewart emerged after half time with ice on his groins and Laverde would get injured soon after. Typical Essendon days!

Laverde always gave 100% effort. Thats more than most.

No. I will give you that he failed as a forward. But he had a good season in 21 when Merrett, Parish and Stringer had big seasons and he wasn’t as exposed by a terrible defensive pressure.
