He was asked on that Ch7 footy show Sunday where he prefers to play, said he isn’t sure and just does what he’s asked. Lineball between the 2 I think, he def loves kicking a goal as we all know.

Reckon Sammy likes kicking a goal, so I doubt he was bummed out by playing deep forward.

Professional players shouldn’t do that. Players that want to play wouldn’t do that. He wants to play.

Cal on Gettable saying that Draper’s UFA status is a “game changer” confuses me. Wouldn’t both Draper and Essendon and probably other clubs have already known this?

Not sure why…he seems to have plenty of good mates at the club. We’ve also invested a ■■■■ tonne of time and development into him and would be able to give him a decent pay day.
Only leaves if we low ball him or he gets an extraordinary offer.
Offer of around $750 - $800k for 5 years would be fair IMO
The likely scenario with our guys is they play their highest level footy, make themselves irresistible, earn a big fat juicy long term deal with us and then proceed to be regularly injured and/or underperform.

Probably because everyone assumed he was in our top 25% of players but turns out he isn’t. IIRC same thing happened to Melbourne with Frawley. He had a heavy front loaded deal which meant in his last year at Melbourne he was not one of their highest paid and it resulted in him being UFA instead of RFA.

No matter what the AFL rules for UFA’s are, they can’t make a player leave.
He’s the most committed Essendon player since Hooker. He wants to stay.
Whether it’s ruck or ruck/forward…he wants to stay.
You can all ■■■■■ about how much his manager squeezes us for, but none of that really matters much.
In any case, any decent player manager Knows we’ve been banking more than anyone.
And it won’t affect our raid on others.

I’m firm in my belief that the BEST Ruckman in the comp should be paid no more than 1.2m based off of 18.3m Salary Cap.
