Former #2 Big Sammy Draper

I hope if he is getting a million , it isn’t from us

And please no more long contracts

Essendon could have re-signed him for $750/800k last year but now it’s the free market which will set his price. Adelaide need a ruckman and whoever misses out on TDK will also be offering big bucks. We will have to meet the market or face the prospect of Goldy as starting ruck in 2026.

Salary cap is increasing and players want to be paid more long term contracts are becoming the norm now fans need to get use to it.

It will absolutely be 6 years and probably $900k a year

It’s not necessarily Goldy or nothing.

If Draper did decide to leave, either because he was wooed by another club or because we didn’t pony up the cash, then you could get a Liam Reidy across from Freo who has competed well enough in the ruck when called upon and has a mature body.
He’d be more a negate at hitouts operator than an around the grounds disposals guy though.

Draper @ 950k per season

OR

Band 1 compo (potentially) + Liam Reidy @ 450k per season

Yep, long term deals have certainly worked out for us so far haven’t they

Yuck!

Every club has/have players on long term deals not sure why Essendon are singled out. look at Blues how many of thier players are on big money and long term deals i would say they are worse then ours.

825k x 5

I only added 25k per year as the Nick Bryan factor, in case he reinjures that knee upon his return.

Becuase our players that we give long term deals to aren’t consistent enough to have gotten them in the first place

Parish
Redman
McGrath
Ridley
Wright

All on long term deals and big money , I wouldn’t call any of them consistent

Recon all of those deals would be heavily front loaded

That makes it better?

well yeah because we now have heaps of room in the salary cap to target other players

Ridley didn’t need the contract extension and McGraths deal apart from those two don’t have a problem with the rest

Nino, you need to accept that there is a number in $$$ that we should not go over, and that applies to the term as well.

If it results in us taking a step back for a year or 2, so be it.
Don’t overpay because of fear.
There are plenty of mature rucks around that can be lured, and we have young prospects on the List.

So wright on a long term deal doesn’t worry you? Or parish who can’t get on the park at all? Or Mr inconsistent redman being on a long term deal- your ok with that?

At the time Parish and Redman deserved their contracts we had to pay market value

I think Draper will be staying on less

Nino in control of a salary cap is a truly frightening thought. Nobody of any note would ever get let go and he’d be cooking the books and saying yes to every possible high profile recruit. Actually are you sure you’re not working at Geelong Nino?

To balance up list spots, any skinny players still on the list would be let go each year.

I hope he can live around that 800k mark.
He will leave some money on the table.
We’ve been very patient with his development.
