Former #2 Big Sammy Draper

Dogs probably have the best top 10 in the league and have been gifted elite talent.

Bevo is cooked.

Are you saying Tony Lockett doesn’t get respect?

I think what Scott was saying is that we’re on our way to repairing our respect in the league after the last decade of crap. The last two coaches have mentioned our gameday setup in their presser’s so we are earning more respect based on our actions. But it’s obviously not the kind of respect Collingwood, Geelong or Melbourne get.

There are steps towards that ‘premiership respect’.

Draper being a flog in Adelaide certainly doesn’t gain respect.

Draper ■■■■■■■ with the Dogs and Bevo doesn’t do ■■■■ IMO. Massive beat up…and look what the Dogs delivered… a performance that….doesn’t respect their coach.

Hilarious.

I hope Bevo stays coach because they have an Uber talented list and he is absolutely ■■■■. Never got that side to a top 4 finish. Premiership was a fluke.

Maybe it does affect discussions between list management and trade / free agency targets.
There are lines of communication that mean nothing to us but can mean more to others.

My point being was…
That as a team, we’ve earned some form of respect from a very low base of respect.
It’s not ‘premiership respect’ because we’re nowhere near that level yet.

Tony Lockett is not a football club.
Do you think Stkilda football club during Tony Lockett’s time has respect? Any time that club of that era is talked about is in reference to its social club. Even Locketts Sydney era will just be remembered as the team to lose to North in the granny. Opposition supporters only respect premierships.

Will agree to disagree.
There’s stupid respect outside of the football world which is what fans and media get tied up in.
Then there’s inner football world respect.

My main point was that it’s not like you only receive respect when you win a premiership.
There are levels on the way to it.
We are coming off a very low base. And we are earning more respect than before.

I believe that is the context that Brad is talking about which you had a gripe about.
If respect is truly that black and white in your mind, then so be it.
I don’t see it that way.

I agree there definitely is an inner football world respect. You can tell just by the way they talk, case in point was Merrett acceptance speech on Anzac Day. Acknowledging Collingwood as the bench mark team. But ultimately I don’t live in that world so it means nothing to me.
Lots of people are going to have different opinions on different teams but at the end of the day there is no argument in who was the premier.

I think Scott knows where the club cultural problems are at. Draper’s comments and actions over the past few weeks indicate he would have been instrumental in getting rid of Rutten, and is a coach killer, both on the field and off with ingrained and inherited stupidity. Unfortunately, Scott will have a very hard time convincing the marketing department this guy should be first up for trade at the end of the year.

If he thought that he’d be playing Bryan. Not sure why he doesn’t, some competition for his spot might make him take his job seriously.

No issue at all with what Scott said. Draper would be best served to actually think for a moment for opening his mouth

hopefully it’s the kick up the backside that Draper needs

Brad Scott is happy to talk up Tarryn Thomas and say he deserves 10 chances after abusing and threatening woman.

But if draper makes some jokes/true facts about another team Scott deems it “too offensive”. Scott better show some respect for the team and players I support because he seems like a giant hypocrite.

The way he and others are talking about draper I find offensive.

Draper has no business publicly commenting on another club or opposition player unless it’s a broad statement like ‘yeah he’s been playing well, he’s a gun’ etc so what he said was completely inappropriate and deserved a stern talking to

Again, Draper was playing a role.
That of an AFL ‘media specialist.’

Here’s something from a very quick google from April 15.

Matthews questioned whether Beveridge has the support of the club leading into the 2024 season. “We know there is the big review…do the people running the Bulldogs have faith that Luke Beveridge is the best possible coach? I just wonder whether Luke Beveridge would think is he getting fully supported by the people running that club? And the players get that vibe,” Matthews added.

Jimmy Bartel claimed the Western Bulldogs should be capitalising now on the talent in their roster. “I would wanting to win now. We’ve got a player who we’re talking about could be the best Bulldog ever in the Bont. Capitalise on him now,” he said.

A more nuanced response from Scott would have been better.
‘Should he have said it? Probably not. But I think he makes a good point about how you guys speculate on what’s going on internally at clubs when you really have no idea, and don’t pay any respect to the way those comments can hurt people. Next question.’

I don’t even think Scott was that hard. He just made it clear and that was it. It’s very clear that Draper is getting ahead of himself and needs to pull his head in.
