I disagree with this. We can be happy to see him go due to having massive question marks on his achilles, but a club taking our FA is still a club taking our FA and we should be compensated on everyone’s expectation that he recovers.
Especially given the previous regime was on gardening leave from July /august (2024) last year. The club had to get this in order and we didn’t and I don’t know why. That’s why I am annoyed.
We are an amateur club at so many levels and have been for a very long time.
Except we had zero choice.
Well that sucks.
Nonsense. I blame Sheddy. And that bloke who held the phone upside down. And Draper.
But the AFL shouldn’t consider his injury. It should just come down to the contract offered. In saying that it would be nice if there was more transparency in the contract offered so the supporters could know if the compensation was fare.
Allen also has an Achilles injury
Everyone’s tripping, draper is a terrible footballer and pick 20 is overs.
Riddance
Take it and run and never look back
Nah
I think pick 20 is about right for Draper. Take it and move on.
Yeah forgot the rules around that, guess we’ll need to try and trade up
Well that’s not an option, it’s how it is.
I’m looking forward to our club next season. Moving on with fresh faces.
Bye big fella.
Your goofy presence and odd freaky act for our club will be missed in this house.
My son doesn’t now know what to do with his prized Sam Draper training top, nor what to do about the number on his footy jumper - and we’re having trouble truly wishing you well at Brisbane - but it’s business and it seems our club is probably quite ■■■■, so I’m also having trouble blaming you for leaving.
They say things come in 3’s, perhaps his Patella tendon is next
Ladies and Gentlemen, hate to break it to you but Drapes wasn’t that good. Cult figure, yes. Great haircut with incredible enthusiasm for the game, yes. But the guy couldn’t really play that well on a consistent basis, this is a guy who is now paid over 900k a year who can’t line up a drop punt in front of goal with incredibly bad footy IQ and decision making. He had impactful moments in games but was nowhere near as influential as what people make him out to be.
Thanks for coming drapes, but on ya bike champ.
We’ll take pick 20 any day of the week and let’s move on.
My favourite posters on blitz at the moment.
- People that think FA comp is based on how good a player they personally think someone is.
- People that think Essendon had any choice whatsoever in Draper leaving. They could have. But they didn’t. They could also have achieved better compensation for Draper. They didn’t.
- People booing and hissing at individuals leaving an appallingly incompetent and mismanaged entity. Like that’s not just friggin’ sensible.
- People ignoring the incredible lack of interest in other players coming to this club, for the first time in my living memory.
I’m not trying to be a jerk.
But I really do find the overwhelming misplaced agro disheartening.
But hey, here’s the opportunity to replace Draper with a fourth round pick as I’ve so often read is so easy.
I wish we could trade one of our first round picks to us, because there’s no club in the league that’s a better bet for a death ride.
You guys can keep taking the blue pill.
We are minus two years into a five year plan.
Edit: Oh!
5. Posters elevating our #1 draft pick back pocket straight past not terrible player sometimes, not often but sometimes, to freakin’ sainthood.
lol. No, not that sort of sainthood. As if they’d take him.
Draper showed this year in both ruck and forward that he is both skilled and has good footy IQ.
Low footy IQ = working hard to effectively maximise scoring opportunities.
I’m not so sure….
Draper learnt how to kick an unconventional set shot this year and increased his tank, until he broke down again.
This is all that changed in 2025.
He’s a bottom 4 rated ruckman in nearly every facet of the game, can celebrate a goal and is elite at post-game Powerade showers.
Interesting.
Where do you rate Bryan, Goldstein, Blakiston and Vigo?
Edit: never mind, you don’t have to answer that. Our ruck stocks are golden and Draper is no loss whatsoever.
I’ll tell you what, though, this twentysomething pick better be our best twentysomething pick since…oh, too soon?
