I wouldn’t wish it on any player but it would be fun to see the Lions suddenly dysfunctional at the centre with a new, inconsistent ruck. Not likely. I’m sure they’ve got a ready made academy kid to step in. I just looked at their list, they’ve got Zarkosteltsky 19 196cm. Also occurred to me Ty Gallop was very good in the few games leading up to the finals where he took big grabs and kicked straight, looked a mobile forward who could ruck. They’ve got a perfect age group, heaps of able back ups across the field, academy prospects, midfield that’s turning over beautifully, farking Ashcrofts, significant players coming in for bugger all, and some decent picks in the draft.
They could win 5 in a row. And I didn’t mean to go down that hole but I did.
Now that I’ve calmed down about the Draper pick, I reckon we could turn this pick into something pretty decent. At the moment it is the last pic of the first round. We should let the team after us trade up one place for a cost.
Go into night 2 with the first pick of the evening, and trade that to the highest bidder. First pick on the second night usually has a fair bit of interest once teams have sat down and evaluated what is left.
It’s not about what you think Draper was worth, it’s about what we could have achieved with some competent management. We literally can’t get out of own way. I’m really trying to stay positive and enjoy a rebuild but man, can we not like fck everything up, all the time.
Redman has likewise undergone a convenient critical re-evaluation on blitz it seems, from list clogger to stalwart. I’ll try to give the benefit of the doubt and assume it’s two different camps that have just been more vocal at relevant stages.
FWIW I appreciate you pushing back against the avalanche of misplaced, angsty, tribalistic bile that has flooded multiple blitz threads of late.
The size and depth of the mess we are in indicates that no one or three people are the root cause. The problems run much deeper and wider than that, it is a club wide issue, not just a few individuals.
I agree with the above comments. There is also the distinct possibility that Fagan is able to channel Sam into playing more constructive and consistent football, after all he was able to do so with JoeDan.
Yeah, it’s bizarre. Is it because he ‘spoke up’ re Merrett? I just found that one more reason to put him in the dead wood category. Hope he discovers some consistency but even at his best there were many players in his role across the league that were superior. We overrated again.
Draper has explosive potential. If you see enough glimpses then there’s something to work with, and we’ve seen lots of those. That’s if his achilles is good, and he’s young enough and probably robust enough that he’s got a very good 5-6 years in him. Lions are laughing, he could be the key to 2 more GF’s or he could be a useful second ruck, resting forward and merch gold.
Iam pretty much the second highest poster in this thread because I would say something like draper isnt that good of a ruckman or bryan has the capability to be far better and is already statistical better.
Then would be attacked by fifteen different posters and have to defend that position
The compensation isn’t fair. The odds of us getting an equivalent AFL player to the version of Draper most Blitzers consider ‘real’ (i.e. no superstar, often injured) is still very low with that pick. If the AFL believes in equalisation, what we just saw isn’t it.
Now, #6 may have been too much, but that just backs up that the compensation system is flawed.
