He and Langford are too hot and cold.
We just need some consistency.

Yeah there certainly is a few, which is always surprising to me. Like I appreciate we all want him to be better however, in relative terms he has offered great value in his time at our club and had a very good year.
WORST GAME HE HAS PLAYED
I think their year has been good. Everyone has bad games. Yep, those two had a game to forget. Langford was the victim of at least two terrible kicks that landed at his feet.
Letās hope the hot Jake shows up next week.
Apart from a few minutes here and there in the midfield. He pretty much needs to be a permanent forward
Only 1 year deals for Jake. If he doesnāt like it, then see ya
Thats been the story of his whole time as a midfielder with us.
Looks fantastic when he wins the footy, but is a massive liability if he doesnt (which is much more often than not)z
Inexcusable to keep him in there while Caldwell plays half forward. Im very quickly getting sick of it.
I think Caldwell was just being rested.
Hopefully Setterfield is fit enough and can come in next week to add to the midfield mix, allowing Stringer to stay forward where heās needed desperately (especially if Langford out)
I donāt know if itās Jakeās fault because heās probably instructed to play like this way when in there, but the Russian roulette centre bounce work costed us at crucial times.
It hasnāt worked for weeks.
Perhaps we should only deploy the tactics when weāre on top in the centre, not when weāre playing our 3rd choice ruckman?
100% this.
How many times did we get within a goal or level the scores, only for us to lose the centre clearance on a gamble.
The new htb interpretation is going to really hurt Stringer. Not sure that he is going to be as effective in centre bounces now that he wonāt always be able to use his strength to break tackles and burst away.
Perkins also. He is very good at staying on his feet when tackled.
This was infuriating and deflating. Kicking a goal was really hard work for us and Jakeās all or nothing approach gifted the Suns the the easiest of replies right out of the middle at least 2 times that I can remember.
Is it Russian roulette or is there something else happening?
Itās obvious Stringer takes CBAs when the opposition has their BBM in there. So Iām assuming he was opposing Rowell. And Iām also assuming heās getting time there to give Perkins a chopout.
Iāve I was setting up against our midfield, Iād hard tag Merrett and force the other two to get the clearance out of the midfield. Throw Parish in there and itās a different dynamic again because one of Durham/Stringer or Parish is going to split the clearances.
I also think Stringer has a better connection with Goldy than he does with Bryan. Earlier in the year, Stringer would hit throw in at pace and Goldy would be able to get it into his general vicinity. But Bryan isnāt experienced enough to do that yet.
I think when we do send Stringer into the CBA, we try and get the right mix of midfielders in there. But it doesnāt always work that way.
Through this year, Iād say having Stringer at the CBA has worked more often than not. So based on that, itās not so much Russian roulette, but more playing the odds. The most damaging midfield clearances occurred in the last quarter and for memory the constants were Merrett and Bryan. I canāt recall if Stringer was there. Iād say the āRussian roulette playā was trying Gresham in there. Not so much sending Stringer in there.
I think bringing in Setterfield will allow Stringer to play more forward than midfield. Thatāll be important if Langford doesnāt get up for the next game.
Editā¦
Iāve had a look at the two midfield setups.
Bryan v Moyle
Gresh v Miller
Merrett v Rowell (Rowell was watching Merrett more than the ruck whiteout)
Caldwell v Anderson (Caldwell was more defensive than attacking).
Moyle got the hitout, Rowell the HBG onto Miller who delivered into the forward line.
Bryan v Moyle
Durham v ??? (Durham guarding space)
Caldwell v ??? (Caldwell was more defensive than attacking).
Stringer v Anderson
No hitout, it came off Bryanās head. Stringer out of position and Anderson gets away.
I couldnāt work out who was on Durham or Caldwell.
On those two centre bounces, we needed to at least split the hitouts. Which we did (in a roundabouts way) with the second one. The first one was all Moyle.
He loves getting up for a big game, i expect a good performance from him.
Yep and I dont understand why.
Stringer is not a body on body lock down player, I dont understand why we are constantly chucking him in there on those players.
I had a look at the centre bounce attended statistics for the last few games and he our second highest attended and is almost attending double the amount that Caldwell is.
We need to stop doing this.
Jake needs to be the one that gets thrown in every now and then at the end of quarters, not the guy starting in there.
1 year deal will do you fine Jake. Nothing more, nothing less.
he did a good shout for a no year deal today and last week
The only time we looked like winning a centre clearance was when Stringer was in the middle. He did not stop competing all day, better than most.
I think his time is up. He is a mercenary now
