If there’s anyone that has licence to do that in our side it’s probably him, he does some mercurial ■■■■ most of our side isn’t capable of
Jake looked very sharp off a break.
His marking was assured and conversion much better.
Ideally, we’d love to be able to manage him for a game between now and Finals.
We will be in no position to do so, however.
Perhaps SUB vest in a game when his numbers are trending downward ?
2 year contract now bring prepared
Langford looks a bit off.
I think Stringer wins our leading goal kicker this year now.
Who do you have?
- Langford
- Stringer
- Wright
Carried our forward line today
He looks so much better when he plays majority of his time up forward with small bursts in the middle.
He is so good at finding and creating a 5-10m gap from his opponent up forward
It was a bit crazy him spending midfield minutes on ball in last quarter when he could have been up forward, and kicking his sixth.
Think we finally got the midfield mix right with him.
He is so so much better as a limited midfielder who spends his time forward than playing at almost every centre bounce.
Caldwell was given Jakes bounces and was fantastic.
Please dont change this now.
It was fairly predictable that he’d kick a bag yesterday. Jakey reminds me of a flat track bully batsman that would be licking his lips knowing the opposition bowling attack had no quicks, it was all military mediums and he’d fill his boots, and that’s what he did. We really need him to lift his output this next month or so where we play Geelong, Collingwood and Melbourne. If he can fire in these games, it will go a fair way to us winning and also keeping hold of a top 4 spot.
Flat track bully …. Pfffffft.
Nonsense
Can’t wait til Jakey kicks 9 in a final this year, all torps for >55m out, and eliminates these trash comments.
If he’s not in our current team, we’re not top 3, plain and ■■■■■■■ simple.
He was just unlucky that Barrass played such a good game. Could have kicked 6-7
I wish we had more flat track bullies. Then we could actually obtain a decent percentage for once.
He was excellent and I think it gives credence to the idea that he was burnt out and needed that bye. His form does tend to trail the more midfield minutes he takes in successive games. I’d really like him to spend more time forward and would prefer we give Setterfield his CB minutes. I just think that’s a better mix.
You’re being disingenuous here, but i suspect you already know that.
Armed with the knowledge that no one will bother going back 3 years to find the posts in question.
For you it was always about getting Hooker out of the side.
For what reason i dont know as he was playing very well up to Rd.13/14.
You were carrying on like we had a young Lloyd rotting away in the Reserves (spoiler…we didn’t).
You were told many times by multiple posters that the options were scarce.
A collection of 1st year players not remotely close to senior selection.
The only player that could have matched Hooker’s output is another guy you hate, and we had decided to play up the other end as a stop gap.
Whether or not it was a good move is irrelevant.
He was playing defence, therefore not an option for forward.
No it wasn’t.
Jones was being fast tracked by being able to play every week, behind Hooker and 2mp, which he did until getting injured later in the season.
Getting a 1st year player (who’s come off injury in '20) to play as the main forward will not “fast track” him or “teach” him.
It will only result in him being beaten up physically, touching less of the ball, and ultimately being dropped.
We made Finals !
This ‘Mantra’ you speak of.
Try any player in the role because player X won’t be there for long.
That’s all great in theory, until a Zac Merrett looks at the team on the park and ponders…“what am i doing here, we’re not giving ourselves a chance to win games”, and then decides to leave via FA.
You have to try to win, or the culture goes down the toilet and no one develops.
Anyhow, we’ve probably spoken enough about Jones and Hooker in the Stringer thread.
Good luck with that.
I think he desrves 2 years on decent money nothing more
Give him a rolling 1 year contract with triggers, can keep playing till he can’t anymore
He’ll never leave Essendon, everyone knows it
Agree. Jake loves the club too much that he would be happy to roll on with one year contracts imo.
Dunno.
As much as he may love the club, if an opposition team offered him (say) three years, it’d have to be very tempting. Given he is 30 odd and has young kids, and it may be a final contract, that security would probably be an attractive proposition.
I agree with one-year deals in principle, but would be happy to settle for a two year deal with a third year trigger.
I’m still not convinced Jake Stringer is going to play too deep into his 30’s
