Former #25 Jake Stringer (Part 2)

Dunno.

His overhead marking has improved enormously over the last year or two. He may actually have scope to play as a permanent forward to extend his career. If there is one thing Stringer can do, it’s find ways to kick goals. Even when he was running around 60% fit he’d hit the scoreboard.

Jake Stringer vs bottom 6 sides: 2.9 goals a game

Jake Stringer vs everyone else: 1.3 goals a game

So, you’re saying bottom teams are easier to score against.

Obviously that’s the case, but you’d like to see that gap closed a little more. He’s got a great chance to this next month, and we will need him to produce if we want to be taken seriously as a legitimate top 4 calibre team…

Here’s Langford for comparison

Bottom 6 sides: 2.4 goals a game
Everyone else: 2.0 goals a game

He looks the fittest he has for a few years.

High money, short term and game/performance triggers for next seasons. so he signs a 1+1+1. He doesn’t get the game or performance in games then it back to the negotiation table for a new deal. On that kind of deal id be happy to pay him the $850 a year.

Looks eerily like Essendon’s record too

I don’t know if we can blame some scared guys on an internet forum for not finding a hooker replacement.

Damnit.
Me and Peos were scared, and now Wright has cement hands and Jones can’t put on muscle !

I am not convinced it has improved markedly over the last couple of years, until last Sunday when he was clunking marks with regularity and assurance. That he was not given much respect by the WEagle defenders is on them, for he was given way too much time to lead into space.

I just wish we were brave and played Josh Eyre. Imagine how good Jones would be now?

No? can’t imagine why.

I remember in 2017/18 when you posted something along the lines of “I still can’t believe Jake Stringer is an essendon player”

I feel we’ve got about as much out of jake as we ever could have reasonably expected.

Any valuable contribution he makes over the next 18 months is a bonus. Beyond that I don’t expect anything

Hard to disagree with this

I think it’s important to share the midfield load and not jsut run the same 3-4 guys through there.
look at Perkins on fire early, a bit out of form there, so play someone else in there.

Its clear our preference is likely
Draper rucking to Merrett, Parish & Durham

with parish out we have developed Caldwell and Perkins

noone else really gets a look in aside from Stringer.
Setterfield looked to be a onballer early but now in the VFL.

Show me Langford and 2MP’s stats?

In fact show me any forwards stats from any team? Pretty sure the stats will be similar, probably because the other teams have better players and systems.

1 year deal, no substantial incentives, 600k pa. He’s played like two good games in ten weeks

Here’s one:

Jake Waterman

Top 8 sides
21 goals in 7 games = 3 goals a game

Bottom ten sides
15 goals in 5 games - 3 goals a game

How’d you work that out?

For Waterman I’m getting
Top 8 sides - 16 goals in 6 games - 2.66 per game
Bottom 10 sides - 20 goals in 6 games - 3.33 per game.

Guessing you may have included Melbourne as top 8? Currently 9th - Does show how this sort of thing can be pretty skewed depending on the day/week.
