Former #25 Jake Stringer (Part 2)

Even if there is more to the story (and there nearly always is), it can’t be ignored that he’s never looked quite fit enough, and never gotten the best out of himself.

It’s not a good situation, whichever way you cut it.

I agree that it is not.
I maintain the point though, that it may not be a simple matter of 'skillful player is a lazy bastard and can’t themselves fit enough to perform or does not care because they earn lots more than I do…"

You couldn’t possibly know that.

His conditioning issues have become worse since he came to Essendon. It was one of the reasons Bevo farked him off, at only 23 years old.

No, that wasn’t the reason.

Yes, it was.

Seriously though, whilst slightly tongue-in-cheek, it’s essentially the likely scenario.

He will whip out some dominant performances which will elevate us to a few extra wins against sides in the 10-18 bracket (our peers) which will give us an inflated win/loss ratio.

But he won’t be providing that sort of match-shaping form when we are next seriously contending with this list, so in my view he is realistically a non-factor- and hence his injuries and unavailability over the remainder of his time with the club has little bearing on achieving our overall goal (flags)

i know everything

but yeah its just my opinion, though the theory has form with him and its a well known fact that when your not in great physical shape as a professional athlete, you get injured more

or, im just completely wrong and Jake’s just super unlucky

Wasnt it because he was gambling, had a gambling issue at the Dogs

Partly.

he was similar to this when he first got here, probably 2019 too, altho that’s when he started to get a bit podgy.

I’ve said it before, and i’ll say it again the sooner the club start moving away from thinking he is big and or major part of the push forward the better.

think of him as your clark keating type deal. he’s a cherry potentially on top if you make finals and he can do some freak things then maybe if you vaguely get him fit enough by the end of the seson.

He is not going to be a key cog or piece of the puzzle.

Lmao.

Look at his body shape in that photo.
He’s never looked like that with us and we just allow it.

Don’t think we will he’ll end up retiring at Essendon imo we will get nothing in a trade for him.

Some one will offer a pick in the 30’s we would tell them to fark off.

I would like BBS to put him in the VFL until his skinfolds and conditioning are to standard like Worsfold and McGovern pre-AA selections.

Our priority is development of our new club culture and standards and I think making an example of Jake’s lack of dedication to these standards would be an excellent opportunity to show we truly intend to change for the better.

I doubt that he has the body which can withstand the rigors of a high-level AFL conditioning program - It seems that once he gets to a certain level of fitness then he suffers injuries - I am not convinced it is a body shape issue.

He’s 29 this year. I’m pretty sure they already know that.

So to the people that blame Jake for his injuries and conditioning, does Scott instantly lose credibility if he plays him? Scott’s main message has been around standards and fast tracking development. If you think Jake got here by being lazy and unprofessional then it would be a massive contradiction on Scott’s part.

He actually rationalises this in the interview with Tim Watson.

Stringer was hampered by soreness all of last year, which robbed him of his speed and power. The club has chosen to focus on regaining his strength and power and says that if that compromises his conditioning in the first few rounds of the season, so be it.

They obviously plan to use him more forward this year and would rather him have that explosive power than a huge endurance base.

Yep i mentioned that further up. I’m more referring to the people that think it’s bullshit.

Similar situation with Walla, although i expect Jake to play a lot sooner.
