Former #26 Kaine Baldwin

Goldy will be insurance and probably a good option in the VFL to ensure decent supply to mids. And assistant coach…. Although it costs a list spot.

If they ditched Goldy they’d need to find another stand in ruck as Vigo isn’t ready to play seniors.

It’s either Goldy or another workman ruck from the state leagues.

Weid, makes no sense. Clearly insurance.

Agree. They will watch and wait and their futures depend on what transpires the next 2/3 months.

I think we may delist and rookie Jayden Davey.

IMO it would be good if Lav could net us a pick and we could rookie Baldwin again.

Goldy required because they are worried about Bryan still? Need a backup in the vfl anyway, if he is happy to play there.
Weid I don’t get.
Setters happy to keep for midfield depth and leadership in the vfl.
Rather Lav get punted.

We can pretty much pick up 3 mature age players for cheap and give them a go. I’d prefer that then keep any of those 3 on the list. Our list is that much of a shamble atm lol

Goldy makes sense of we are trying to loophole the soft cap tax ala GWS with Mumford a few years ago.

Faaar out. Setters makes sense but Goldy & Weid are obvious delistings.

The whole article was there just to soften the blow of the last sentence.

I would like to see a fit Baldwin earning an SSP place on the list. But first he has to prove his body is viable for another opportunity. I think he’s better than Laverde other than resilience to stay on the park.

If Balders trains well and is fit by the end of the SSP period, I reckon other clubs will look at him too, we may have competition for his services…

We my offer him one year, some other club may offer two.

And the wheel turns…

I’m less convinced of that.

I suspect it’ll be Essendon or a state league team for Kaine initially in 2025. He could well get an opportunity elsewhere via MSD if the latter, though.

But I’d be thrilled for him if another club have him a shot. He seems a ripping kid and I think he could make a solid AFL player if his body allows.

I’ll never understand delisting and then picking someone up again for the rookie list. We do it so often (it feels) and it never works out.

This club really is farked. Baldwin is not the answer, move on.

It worked for Brett Kirk

Brett Kirk played for Essendon?

If the dude wasn’t injured he would have been a blessing over Laverde this season.

I hope one day we get to see him for a period of time uninjured.

Having said all of that, that’s why your view is also correct. Dude has the Essendon kind of injury luck.

Yes.

What injuries did he have to shrug off? Because he only had to get over a single injury. He hasn’t had a problem with his knees since his last injury which was in early 2000. He played most of 2022 and 2023 aside from some concussion. He showed heaps of promise in the seconds, like Mass, and only didn’t get more games due to Scott preferring senior players. Like Mass.

He was born in 2002, sorry I know you meant 2019. It’s no small thing to have 2 knee reconstructions and should always be a consideration, especially if he shows the negative impacts to his mobility. The foot is of serious concern, but he could have recovered from that.

There have been many comments in here about his ‘turning circle’ being rather extensive. If accurate it is a function of untrustworthy knees (even if only psychological from Baldwin) and would have had the club concerned that he had the mobility to take on AFL standard players week in and out.

Personally I’m glad to hear he’s back in contention for a spot, if only to play regularly on the VFL list. It’s been noticeable how poor the VFL list has been, it’s about time good quality players filled out the squad.

Why was he the only one delisted though if he wasn’t adhering to the “afl lifestyle”. The whole thing makes zero sense
