He only has one year left on his contract. I reckon he would get another year if he had more injuries with us, but he would get on a list somewhere.
An embelishment? Closer to an outright lie Theyāve both had 4 full AFL seasons on the list.
Whoās giving Reid a pass? Certainly no one on here, he cops it all the time. Reid had a contract for 2025, Baldwin didnāt.
But yes, as a top 10 pick heās likely to get more leeway, given the perceived talent that resulted in him being taken so high. Obviously the injuries were a large part of why Baldwin went SSP to begin with, but Reids added height does make quite a difference.
I say all this as a massive Baldwin fan.
Ha, iāll give you that. Soft spot for Lav, and Sheedy-esque bizarro moves. Prob no room for either going forward but I thought Iād make a case after a long day doing slow, hard and unrewarding work.
I agree with you re Baldwin, I think itās a good move from the club!
I donāt agree about clubs being into Reid, think itās becoming evident it was a pretty weak draft, and DGB from Hawks went before Reid, has been delisted and I think maybe only Carlton seem keen to give him a second go.
Yeah but Reid is the mystery box, DGB has been shown to be poor without injuries, and worst of all uncompetitive.
Clubs would do it for the upside.
Whatās Reidās best role if heās fit? Is he a commanding chb? (Theoretically i mean)
What injury history? Since he started with us heās had a concussion or two, now the foot injury. If Scott wasnāt an ageist heād have played plenty in 2023. People act like Baldwin has repeatedly been getting injured.
Multiple knee injuries prior to being picked up does have some bearing.
Not really. There hasnāt been a single problem with his knee since being drafted. It should have little bearing on assessing how likely he is to have an injury free career.
Look, combine 2 ACLs leading to him going undrafted, getting a rookie spot to later suffer another long term injury of the lower leg, all before he is 22.
It doesnāt really lend itself to the suggestion he isnāt injury prone, as much as you suggest otherwise. The evidence is kind of there for you to see.
Also, injuries often create other issues that result in other injuries to areas that may seem unrelated but actually are.
4 years on the list, 2 full years out with injury.
No matter how you spin it, he has an injury history with 2 major injuries in 2 ACL and 2 breaks in his foot.
We are not talking about a few hammys
Just no.
I hope we have other players train with us over the summer and donāt just limit ourselves to Kaine. Not sure Iād go with him again to be honest.
Except the first one he was available to play much sooner, but like Jayden we decided to be extra cautious.
Itās guys like Saad and Durham that makes me think we are mad to take Baldwin back yes heās got a bit of talent but the mid season draft has been very good to us and long young guys who missed out at the draft will be available.
You cant bank on a long term injury to take a pick
What has Saad done? Not saying he canāt be a decent AFL player but we have absolutely no evidence of that yet. I saw plenty of evidence at AFL level that Baldwin could be a decent player.
I saw plenty that said he wonāt
Saad showed more in two vfl games than Baldwin has in all heās games
If we get Baldwin back on the list, then Iāve run out of things to complain about this offseason. His delisting was the only thing I really disagreed with.
If we were smart, which weirdly we might be, weād have Kaine train on for the preseason with some other guys from around the states who hope to be picked up. Then if he gets through uninjured and remains the best candidate of the all players trialling, then he gets the last spot on the list. Itās too early to be closing the door on other options for our last spot.
Weāve been good at picking up hidden gems no one has heard about via this method and hereās hoping we can continue that trend.
