Can’t have the turning circle of a truck playing as a medium sized forward
Iam not sure how you come up with 7 rucks
Draper
Bryan
Goldy
Vigo
Gerryn
And like I said wright is not a ruck, Cox also isn’t a ruck l, Vigo is a long way off it and played forward almost all year in the vfl expect for small stints in the ruck, Gerryn is even further off it than Vigo.
It really only gives us three genuine ruck options
My apologises I should have been clearer in what I meant.
I meant the quality of the depth is better in the backline you also left out cox who can play that role and has been tried in that role.
Despite Menzie having a bad year last year in 23 he kicked the most goals from a small forward since walla left.
You could argue that every small on that list besides Kako has serious question marks about their ability to preform or injury
Nice move of the goal posts. I don’t think you can avoid that the non-marking forwards have 4 spare depth players (not even including SEH or Martin), while we have all of two in the backline, with 2 of our main tall defenders having terrible injury histories. In any decent argument about depth, we need tall defender depth far more than we need a small forward depth.
Cox has looked terrible every time he’s played in defence. I’d consider him worse depth there than Martin/SEH are in the forward position.
Tom Stewart was running around in the local legaue and was given a chance by Geelong. Baldwin has been on the list for years and has played at the top level, hardly the same. I wouldn’t had kept Menzie, and they didn’t let Mass go, he left. Mass leaving does not keep me up at night, handy but an average player. Clubs will always make mistakes but Baldwin aint one. He has been on the list, trained with the club, and played with the club. He has not done anything to warrant an extension, no other club wanted him, even though they have all seen him. If you want to improve your club you have to turn over players and sometimes it will backfire. There is no case you can make for keeping Baldwin, he is just not good enough.
More of a road train than a truck but that is nit picking.
Shouldn’t
I didn’t say it was the same. I was pointing out that the fact that the league clubs all do X doesn’t mean X is correct. There have been other players cut, not picked up, and make it back to AFL as well. So, that all the clubs didn’t pick up Baldwin isn’t proof that it was the right decision.
The irony is that 12 months ago before his injury, with his performance across the preseason, the hype on Baldwin was through the roof on Blitz. He gets one season-long injury, doesn’t play a game except half-a-praccie against Bulldogs, and suddenly he is useless with no good traits, an injury-prone hack.
I love how so many on Blitz do 180s on no new evidence!
I think Brad really rated him too it’s just Edward’s performance threw a spanner in the works.
What you are saying is that anything can happen, can use that argument to defend anything. The fact that no club, including Essendon thought him worthy of a list spot tells you a lot. He may grow an extra leg in the future and become a superstar but I am thinking the chances of that are about the same as the Dons picking me up in the MSD.
Really, and what makes you think that? I agree that Edwards performance may have got him over the line, but if Scott really rated Baldwin why did he get Edwards over here just before the SSP cutoff?
Due diligence
Bollocks
I’m going by how disappointed Brad was when kaine got injured right before the season started and he was dominating preseason by all accounts
Now he is fit he doesnt get a spot. OK
■■■■ happens mate doesnt mean he didnt rate him.
My point is he didn’t rate him enough to give him a list spot. Hard to argue that he thought of him so highly thaat he would say on your bike mate.
im guessing they felt edwards was more of a need and at this stage they were giving him that spot. they must have rated baldwin to bring him back after so many injuries. anyways whats done is done.
I was going to let this go but i my recollection is different. I don’t think they brought him back is correct. What i believe happenned was after he was delisted they said he could try out for an SSP slot and he chose to do that. He appears to me to be a pretty loyal type. Anyway happy to be corrected on this.
