Former #29 - Jake Kelly

If he plays in the backline, I have no issue with him playing. You can normally rely on him shutting his opponent out of the game

If he is going to be shunted to a win or into the forward line, there is zero point selecting him. It doesn’t do the team or jake any favours at all

But please stop using him as the last man in the link coming out of defence, or using him as the backline distributor

Scott hasn’t done him any favours. Hopefully with Duursma back and the form of Jones on the wing, we can put that experiment to bed. He should get Kosi next week.

Will be super important in finals to lock down on someone. He looked so much better without hep beside him, it’s one or the other for mine.

I think you can only afford to play 1 of either Kelly or Heppell in our back half.

Considering Kelly is younger, is far better at locking down an opposition players and has an enormous tank - I would be picking him ahead of Heppell.

Some weeks he will do a job for you - others he will have you pulling your hair out. Like a few others on our list.

We prioritise getting this guy in our team at every opportunity

If that doesn’t sum up Brad Scott’s Essendon, I don’t know what does.

Some sublime defensive work.

This bloke absolutely gave everything he had and deserves some credit. Im literally tearing a new ■■■■■■■ to every other player but when we are down and this comments section goes off with people saying to get rid of him. Well look at last night. Well done Kel, chin up.

Yep agree with that, but he doesn’t have well at all to give. He would not get a game at any other Club.

His slow and high ball movement is terrible.

See i disagree, I think he’d have a spot in alot of other teams, his endurance and work effort is elite. Below average foot skills for a AFL player is below average. The issue is we have to many below average players with kicking skills coming out of the backline.

But his football skills and footy brain are non-existent

We have the dumbest backline in history. Kelly, McGrath, Mackay, Laverde, Ridley, Redman and Martin. Now Martin should be on the forward line, so I will forgive him, but the rest are slow in their actions, panic, kick poorly and never play close to opponents. How many times did Crows kick goals out of the pack with no Essendon players in defence of the goals.

Lazy and dumb, reckon Redman, Ridley and McGrath drink their own bath water.

Yeah fair enough, not wrong there. The clubs broken me. I can pretend to say I dont care anymore but the reality is I do. Sigh

Agree. The combined total of that footy IQ in the backline is disastrous.

Well…he played 110 games at Adelaide, including 24 games in a year they made the Grand Final.

We all know he’s got very little skill, but he’s one of the best lockdown defenders in the competition and if a few of his teammates worked as hard as he did we wouldn’t have losses like last night. He’s been a good contributor this season and should be given some credit for his efforts. He deserves it.

He played in a Grand Final with the crows ….

He is limited, but plays the small stopper role excellently.

His game against Adelaide was curious to say the least. I don’t recall him playing on Keays at all, and he kicked 5 on us. I’m still filthy in his positioning and him pulling out of putting his body on the line for the last goal.

He did a bit of that last year, (avoiding body on body contact after he was concussed).

Yep, seven years ago

He finished seventh in their b&f in his last season there, 2021. Three years ago. Then he had the same result in his first season with us (two years ago), and he’s had a totally solid season THIS YEAR.

Your dislike of the guy is purely subjective.

That’s not really saying much, is it? Adelaide were garbage that year. Snelling came 3rd in our BnF in the same year, and it meant little 2 years later when he was delisted.

This year he was good for a patch but I would hardly call it a good season overall.
