That marking contest he backed into in the last quarter today was insane brave.
It wasn’t he didn’t know what was coming. He would have seen exactly what was going to hit him, he was initially running facing it. It’s that he still turned, backed in, and took the sizable hit.
He’s been good to HT. These shutdown roles are his jam. Just don’t use him in transition out of defence, having said that, the way Redman and Ridley are travelling he’s a safer bet than them to hit a target at the minute!
I like this sort of Kelly. Priority#1 is defend and nullify his opponent. I think he was on Hill for most of the game, and he blanketed him (0.1). 9 pressure acts and 0 1v1 losses. Then to attack, but within his limitations (17 disposals, 15 effective.) He was an asset.
Definitely spent some time on him late in the game.
He cops it a lot on here, and I agree he’s got very little in the way of skill. But holy crap he is a good stopper. We are a much better team defensively with him in it.
Brad Scott needs to find the balls to tell him that he’s a horses for courses player only. If there is a match up defensively, he plays because he is a good shutdown player. But if ever he gets that tingling to play him on a wing he needs to be dropped immediatley.
