Agree. There was that moment when he stepped inside and wrong footed a couple of guys, including Buddy Franklin. For me that was the moment it clicked.
Yes, please get out the spreadsheet - I suspect youāll find that the ones involved were the usual suspects - the vocal minority with the bullyboy mentality, who wouldnāt recognise talent if it smacked them in the groin, and whose only goal in life is to create the next BBlitz whipping boy.
Haha probably. I have mainly been a lurker through the journey, so I must admit Iām not too familiar with a lot of names around here, but you are correct, thereās definitely a few people on here Iāve noticed who seem to thrive on trashing kids.
I digress though, Iām just super happy this kid is proving doubters wrong.
The harshest thing Iāve said about him in this thread was that Iām not a big wrap for him, but I think heās being unfairly criticised.
Iām not afraid to say when I donāt think a player will make it.
Iāve never felt that way about Zerk. I donāt know how anyone could, really, there just hasnāt been enough information.
Heās played 31 games and most of those were in teams where our mids thought defence was the defenderās problem, and the ball was coming in lace out from distributors under zero pressure.
Iām still not a big wrap for him.
I think he is a very competent AFL standard KPB.
Iām not sure Reid wonāt overtake him at some point, and if he does then thatās okay.
He doesnāt, and never has, deserve(d) to be a whipping boy.
I think we could but what I saw yesterday from Zerk was more contested intercept marking. We would miss that if we can pressure the Saints midfield to bombing long. I think by the end of the year Zerk could be a real weapon if he keeps progressing each week. He now has the confidence to go for marks not just spoil every time.
Some⦠ok, many on here may not like this comparison but Iām seeing a lot of SOS in this boyās game. Sure the guy played for fark Carlton but he could read the play and injected himself into the game when he felt the need to leave his opponent and contest the ball, often to clear the area. Heād wear his opponent like a warm overcoat on other occasions. Zerk is on the way to this and Iām glad we can witness his journey.
After 1 AFL game in his first season, he spent a long time mostly in the 2s, for about 3 years before he played a decent block of games in 2022. Up to that point he seemed to have modelled his close checking game on Ambrose, but last season he showed he was prepared to run off his opponent and back himself. You know, like Rance. I still donāt really have confidence in him, but every game he proves me wrong.
