Former #34 - Luamon Lual

Simply very average. Sorry, way below average! No football brain, wondering around in no-mans land half the time, below average skills and endeavour for the ball. The best aspect regarding him, is that he is an easy delist along with Gresham, Prior, Menzie, Davey, …… then unfortunately, Smart and I now don’t rate or see any future for Day-Wicks or Hawaii either.

Lual should be in the first handful of easy delist player….. sorry lad.

Playing so many youngsters is not just seeing who’s any good,…. its also witnessing how very average some of these players are. It’s not necessary Essendon’s fault as many or most of these players are later picks.

Maybe .. Lual will come on with a string of AFL games now, grow in confidence and with the benefit of an off season prep be better come R1 2026?

It’s the upside you have to gauge in these early years. And the attitude which is so important.
He has a few skill attributes, is pretty fearless but I like his sense of finding space (not guarding grass) too.

He could be good .. he might be ordinary but with another year we’ll know a lot more.

I have seen him accurately kick a fantastic 30m bullet, in the old days you would call it a stab pass. It was wonderful to see, and doesn’t really exist in todays game. It was in the 3rd last game I reckon and he was in the back flank kicking towards the centre, maybe to Merritt? I cannot recall.

Anyway, the club could film Lual’s kicking various short kicks and stab passes.
Put in on a huge projector, play it in slow motion, then get the whole team around, analyse it in depth and teach the whole bloody team how to kick a short kick and/or stab pass.

Yep the athleticism thing is frankly a huge stereotype.

He’d have been in the Menzie and ADJ batch yesterday for mine.

I see it. He closes down space quickly, he rushers the oppositions disposal causing mistakes or regulation kicks into spoiled kicks. I don’t know if it’s a stamina thing or a burst speed thing but it’s definitely a thing. Although I do admit I only see his speed being used defensively at this stage. Still needs a lot of improvement to be quality AFL player.

Quick but not absolutely elite speed. IMHO.

I don’t hate 1 more year for him.

Has he improved this year. Yes.

Does he have scope to continue to improve. Yes.

I think he stays.

We’ll have a couple of tough delistings this year. IMO they’ll be Setterfield and Lual.

Good luck to him. Personally I don’t see it. A list spot is really important to the club and we can’t afford guys that are just below average despite two years in the system.

Yet Essendon are happy to keep Cox, Perkins, Hobbs, Tsatas & co.

Ironic.

Not for long

One hopes so

But still in some cases twice as long as Lual.

Indeed - this is really crazy year. Just got to hope Matt Rosa doesn’t get poached by another club

I hope Brad Scott does and takes Rosa with him.

not a fan of Rosa?

Not a fan of anyone at EFC at present. We have watched the worst year in my entire life of watching Bombers since 1962. I have never seen such lack of effort, passion and incompetence, a sad reflection on coaches and players, and I lump Rosa in because I can. He may yet make us want Jackets to return.
