Former #36 Jayden Davey

Yep. But he was almost the last pick in his draft, 15-20 years ago.

Because less players means more money per player. And the AFLPA never gives a ■■■■ about future or fringe players.

Super excited by the development of Jayden. We only have one genuine fast goal kicking small forward on list (2 if you count Tex). Already kicking regular goals at VFL on his first season which wouldn’t be easy given how poor our VFL has been until recently. Hoping a big preseason can get his tank to a level where he could play 10 AFL games next year.

You’re easily excited then

Some nice small forward goals there.

He’s worth a crack now I agree

I wonder if he realises how important it is for this list build that he becomes a legitimate gun AFL small forward. He’s definitely at the right club at the right time for the sort of player he is. Please have an epic pre season, get fit and never look back.

I don’t see goals made out of nothing from incredible crumbing or unbelievable evasion or wild finishing. I see good solid forward play and a Joe the goose.

First goals he’s on his heels under a pack and finishes well. Second, tidies up setterfield’s good tackle. Joe to the goose

He’s not going to be selected off that

Love seeing him hit the scoreboard and he definitely has pace that we’re currently lacking up forward, but I reckon he needs to ramp up the tackling pressure before they seriously consider him.

0 tackles yesterday and only twice this year has he made more than 1 in a game (15 tackles from 14 games overall).

Big pre-season ahead for Javey, just needs to get super fit so he can impact games more consistently.

He’s not playing this year. Not a chance

I agree with @ivan and @nickers here.
I want to see him (or any small forward we have) be a hard running competitive player, who, if you throw the ball into a group and let them go for it at training, will come out with it more than his share.
Menzie is the closest we have to that, and he is, unfortunately, a fumbler whose finishing is not great. At least he’s competitive though.
Both Davey’s have a long way to go, irrespective of how often balls fall out of packs to them and they kick a goal.

They do, but leg speed is a premium asset in AFL, and they both have lots of that.

Alwyn yesterday started looking a lot more willing to get body contact, and then just backed his natural evasiveness to avoid it. He really needs to build on that.

Jayden just (yes, that word is doing some heavy lifting) needs to add defensive pressure. He’s got no lack small forward tricks.

I don’t care what anyone says, you can not tell me that this bloke wouldn’t have given more than what Menzie or Guelfi gave last night or even Perkins as sub.

FK Yeah !!!

If he adds defensive pressure, play him in the seniors.
I haven’t seen him in the VFL, has he been doing this?

If he adds anything … play him in the Seniors.

Seriously, we couldn’t go backwards at this point.
And if we did, I would prefer doing it trying something new,
Than recycling used trash.

what about if he adds goal scoring power and finishing ability plus speed on turnover to get back for easy goal?

He does not add defensive pressure. Doesn’t like to tackle or commit himself to the contest. I’m not interested in him on that basis.

Yep, I’ve got doubts on both Daveys. Neither of them are showing a lot. Glimpses yes, but I’m not sure that’s enough. J Daveys first season so he gets another 12 months rightly so but my concern on both boys is their lack of physical application. They won’t make it if they don’t improve in this area significantly.
