Bryan is not a backman. Played zero time as a backman at the club.
There are a few posters who are clinging on to those COVID hub “12 on 12” or “14 on 14” scratch matches where apparently Bryan spent a little time in defence.
Sam Draper even played for Carlton in a practice match I think lol
I’d bring Bryan in to play as second ruck.
And then keep him in the team.
I’d bring Bryan in to play on Hipwood.
ah right, thanks mate
I think Rhett might get a few games soon.
May not be 100% ready, but we are getting desperate for backmen.
It will be exciting to see what he can bring.
I think we are very much at the point of improvisation in terms of tall defenders. So poor is our available depth.
Stiff
I’m not sure under what circumstances this guy would be selected. He was our best last week, and we have Kelly and Ridley as outs, and Lav already missing. We are also coming up against a team with JD, Hipwood and Gunston all capable overhead. He should be in along with Baldwin IMO.
10000% and we are supposedly developing rewarding those putting in the effort hahahaha
Baldwin has never played AFL level defence, and only just learning defence in general
Montgomerie yet to debut
To put them both out in one game wouldn’t be preferred I expect.
Want to try and maintain structures as best we can given the experienced defenders out
Redman has been set the task on taller opponents like Cameron recently, so he will go to Gunston IMO
Although untested, they’re the most natural (available) like for like fits with Laverde and Kelly. Hell, bring in McBride for Ridley and go 100% back to our original structure I say!
We’ve effectively lost Ridley, Lav, Kelly and have only brought in Baldwin with any height to replace them.
It’s strange isn’t it.
Why bother drafting a mature defender in the first place
i know you’re just trying to be positive and sell what’s going on.
but it makes no sense.
how can you try and maintain the structures by changing the likes of who redman plays on.
and i thought the whole point from scott was system over personal ? and are they not learning the same system in the vfl ? blummers keeps telling us they are.
this is like mcdonaugh last year, what the hell is the point of picking up mature players if you don’t actually play them, esp when ■■■■■ hit the fan.
lets be honest even without him playing we are gonna get a belting, so honestly what would it matter if you play him and baldwin in the same side ?
one of them may show a bit, and therefore you would at least have more of an option in the future. If he played well would also give the leeway to leaving langford forward.
worrying about losing by 30 odd points more in a game that we are going to lose anyway, just cos they are scared to play to newbies in defence, again in a year where the coach says it’s about building for the medium future, just makes no sense.
Was Brad Scott our coach on draft night or have any say in who or what we drafted? Maybe he had no say and isn’t excited by the players chosen? Not saying that is the case, just wondering.
He was our coach on draft night. I believe he said he had some input, but his philosophy was to let the team decide
Could be the coaches just don’t rate Rhett
Well, he’s 22. If you thought he could become a Bags/Hibberd quality, you might not necessarily be expecting him to perform in year 1. But it seems like a no brainer to use this game to give him a taste, knowing Ridley & Kelly should be back next week.
He’s about to turn 23, so I would say he’s more mature than developing (body wise)
The guys been one of our better VFL players all year and is suited so well to playong on a Gunston type.
Langford is clearly best up forward, we play our best with him up there, just stop robbing poor old Peter for crying out loud
The one line I don’t like that BDB uses is when asked about guys coming into the side like Voss, we want to set them up to come in and stay in the team.
I get that sounds like a good philosophy but when guys are banging the door down and there is no one left in the side bring them in
