Former #39 Patrick Voss - false messiah

Id say 2 of his last 6 games were good and the others are poor. Hes playing VFL, he should be averaging 2 goals a game if hes any chance to be selected. Look at Josh Shache for example, hes averaging 2.5 goals a game and hes rubbish at AFL level. I like Voss and think he will improve but he hasnt kept up the form from early in the year to force the selectors hand. That said he would still probably offer more then Weid.

What I do like about Voss he has that swagger of a true forward. He looks like he wants the footy in his hands in the big moments, be the center of attention. Pretty much the opposite of what Weid has offered the last 6 weeks.

Kaine Baldwin had that too when he was a forward, kicked a few match winning goals in the VFL last year.
but we decided to give a game to Reid as a forward and Hurley a farewell at the end of the year in 2022 when it should have been Hurley and one of VOSS or Baldwin.

Yeah, I actually prefer Baldwin than Voss as a forward because of his ability to kick goals in multiple ways. However Voss definitely comes across as more FigJam, which helps if you want to be a gun forward.

From what I’ve seen of Baldwin up forward, he lacks the pace off the mark and ability to get separation on his opponents. Voss to me has a few more tricks and a bit of X-factor about him. I’ve liked Baldwin down back, he really applied himself well in his 2 AFL appearances this season and was bloody unlucky to be dropped after an excellent display against Richmond. Defence is where he can stake a claim as a senior regular at AFL level. I don’t see it as a forward.

Yeah, fair enough. I want to see more of him in the seniors. I think he’s good enough to play back or forward.

I was pleasantly surprised in Baldwin down back. Solid, reads it well, and pretty decent kick of the footy (better than Lav and Zerk). I hope he’s kept on for next season. A lot to like and further develop.

I’ve been pleasantly surprised also for no other reason than I don’t have to read a million posts how we ruined another players development by playing him out of position. However with the injuries we have had and the lack of form of Weid maybe it’s robbed him of a chance to grab a spot. Sliding doors, guess we’ll never know.

Why all this talk of Voss in the seniors? Scott refuses to give him a go. Will have to wait for his appearance in 2024.

His role has changed for a start. Gone from FF to CHF and now pushing up the ground a lot further. There’s guys playing in our 1sts now who never averaged 2 goals a game in the VFL. What’s weids AVG? Well under 2 goals a game. The thing that Voss brings is physical presence something we severely lack. He always tackles and gets the ball to ground. Cox’s selection today shows you have to be a top ten pick to get a look. Even though he had 3 good quarters in two weeks. Then it’s come right in. Others are being made to work a lot harder than the golden children. Voss given a chance will make it the kid is still only 19

In 2021 he averaged 3.5 goals a game in the VFL.
In 2022 he averaged 1.4 goals a game in the VFL and played some time as a ruckman.
Voss is currently averaging 1.6 goals a game.

I like Voss but his form after the first 2 rounds has been okay/good, but not great. I would still prefer him to Weideman but I doubt he would make much of an impact atm and thats fine because hes young and hopefully will continue to develop from here.

Wasn’t Weiderman more ruck than forward last year in VFL?

Have you taken into account the move from FF to CHF. He does a lot more of the grunt work for which Jorgensen gets the benefit.

Yes his role changed, theres things hes still working on improving. When he is performing better he will have a better chance of getting a game. Atm if he came into the AFL side I think he would have minimal impact, a lot like when Baldwin came in and played forward at the start of 2022.

He’d kick ten goals and you know it.

Casey are also 5th and have an insanely strong midfield spoon feeding him.
Whereas we’ve had games its lucky to make it into our 50, so Voss finds himself at CHB for a touch.

Might as well delist him, he’s just gonna rot in the VFL anyhow.

Essendon is clearly in desperate need for a center half forward…

Hunter looked good for a week. Might as well invest in him for the next 7-8 years.
