Former #39 Patrick Voss - false messiah

Whoever said he is a chance to be delisted may have been onto something.
Coaches clearly dont rate him.

I’m at the stage now that I reckon even if 2MP got suspended or injured this week that Voss still wouldn’t get a game. I was sure he’d be in this week with both Stringer and Weed out.

Bloody hell selectors!

We could have 12 fit players, ala West Coast, and Brad would recall ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  Ryan Crowley from retirement over playing Voss.

Most conservative coach / selection panel we’ve ever had.

Voss probably porked Mrs Scott and this is his payback

Will finally get a crack against west coast after Sydney end our season

Will never play a game for Essendon

Scott: your not ready VOSSY
I cannot play you and Baldwin in the same side.
I know I said you could play the stringer role, but Menzie hasn’t trained all week and now says he’s good to go.

That was me.

He’s clearly not rated by the coaches. No Weideman, Jones or Stringer from earlier this year and he’s not even an emergency.

He’d be better off elsewhere.

This isn’t correct.

There are a lot of players in the VFL that aren’t being picked, it’s doesn’t mean they aren’t rated.

It’s crazy no playing him.

Must get a game before the end of the year for mine.

Gets a one year contract too.

Now we have Redman locked away, guys like Menzie, VOSS etc should be announced soon too.

I suspect contract extensions of rookie listed players will be kept towards the end of the season.
We don’t know if they’ll be upgraded or not, opposition clubs can force our hand that way and it’s in the best interests of the player to handle it that way.
In my mind, Menzie should be on the senior list. Voss hasn’t gotten games, so for his best interests, I’d do a one year contract only and see if he gets a look in next year.

Voss’ form hasn’t been as good as the first month of footy, but I think he should have had a 2 game patch to see where he’s at.
It doesn’t look like he’ll get that opportunity this season.
If clubs don’t come sniffing around Voss this pre-season, then something is definitely up with him that us fans don’t see but the rest of the industry do.

Interestingly Paul Cousins said on podcast that Baldwin is the best key defender in the VFL that he’s seen this season.

Its a bit surprising he isn’t getting his chance especially when he performed ok when got his chance earlier in season.

Scott obviously has his preferred 22 and makes it very hard for the younger players to squeeze into it. which is ok, but He shouldn’t be putting injured players on the park like Stringer.
I would have thought given Scotts first year he would have given more of the list a go by now, hopefully if we go down to the bin chickens we see some actual changes.

It’s important to get a taste of AFL level and know what they can work on. Feel VOSS will step up at the next level. Baldwins ball use far exceeds LAV, Kelly, Weideman in defence, and we do need good kicks down there.

Massimo too 28 disposals, uses the ball well, has hardened up his defensive side of the game and is a great kick.

Scott: ā€œHey Vossy, remember when you made that joke on the day we met that I’m the ugly twin. Well who’s laughing now ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– !ā€

Baldwin is highly rated internally.
He has the ā€˜football IQ’.
I wouldn’t use the hesitance in playing him meaning that the coaching group don’t trust him.

I think what he’s missing is having time to work in the back six during training sessions so that the combination works well together.
I noted during pre-season that the back six of Laverde, BZT, Ridley, McGrath, Kelly and Redman all communicate incredibly well to hand off opponents and try and set up plays. It is a key driver why the back six has performed well given the amount inside 50s we allow the opposition. Last year, that connection and resistance within the back six just wasn’t there from the start.
I’m hoping that Baldwin has the opportunity to to play with the other defenders during pre-season so he can slot in a lot better and hopefully he gets the opportunity through training. Playing him back in the forward line at VFL isn’t going to help.

The same was happening with our forward line through pre-season, but it was screwed when Guelfi and 2MP were injured, Stringer was subdued and Langford was still finding his way. Insert Baldwin and Voss there and they’d get in the way of others (or others would get in his way). Sometimes, things came off well, other times it didn’t. It worked better when Drapes started pushing forward and helped out as the marking target.

I’m comforted that it sounds like Voss is playing alongside 2MP at training which means he’s getting closer to fitting into the forward combination. Hopefully that becomes the pattern at training and that continues into the pre-season.
Voss deserves a shot. Hopefully he takes it whenever it’s presented to him.

Not highly enough unfortunately

If Voss doesn’t get a game before year’s end and is then moved on, where would he sit amongst the most talked up Essendon players never to have played a game?

Who else would be in that conversation? I imagine he has the likes of Danny Chartres covered.

Chris Ladhams used to kick bags in our 2’s didn’t he? But never got a game for us. I imagine if Blitz was around then he’d have had his supporters.

Stephen Milne was never actually drafted to us was he?
